    White or Pied Wagtail (UK)

Thanks, there was very little processing done - converted from RAW - Tiff then just noise reduction and a bit of sharpening before saving as a jpeg for the web.

    White or Pied Wagtail (UK)

Picture taken at the beginning of November last year. I original had it as a Pied but a few people has suggested that it is a White, looking at my Collins Guide I am still not sure.

    Meadow Pipit or Skylark (UK)

I can never be sure about these two when in flight.

    Is this a Ruff?

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Here is another shot from my local patch but this time taken with the 800mm f11 lens (gives 1280mm FF FOV). This is a amazing value for money lens IMO (I paid £650). Its a glossy Ibis.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Yes I got mixed up with another pic I had just posted in another forum which I took with the 800mm f11 lens with which I often use the 20mm limiter when shooting in the estuary. I have now correct.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

I am still very much enjoying the R7 for birds, the number of keepers compared with my old 7d2 is off the charts. The attached shot was using a 1.4x converter on my RF 100-500 which works brilliantly with very little reduction in IQ, this combo gives 1120mm FF FOV and is easily hand-holdable...

Thank you for all the replies, Little Egret it is then.

This one looked way bigger than a Little egret, could it be a Great white without the yellow bill? (breeder!) We have Great whites with yellow bills locally.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Hi Mike, I am a little surprised that you are getting such a small keeper rate, I shoot with the Electronic shutter at 15 fps in Craw and almost always just take a burst of around 1/2 sec or so which gives 7 or 8 very similar images - there may be 1 or 2 that are not pin sharp when viewed at...

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

I find the R7 + 100-500 a very good combo for birds in flight (attached shot taken with this combo). With my 800/11 lens it can be difficult to find the bird in the viewfinder and when you do it is sometimes difficult to keep it inside the smaller AF area - when you do the R7 latches on OK. I...

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

I will not be getting one as I already have the RF100-500 (brilliant lens even with the 1.4x tc attached) and 800/11 - what puts me off the 200-800 is the addition weight over my two current birding lenses (albeit it is still relatively light for what it is). I some times use the 800/11 in...

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

There is no reason why this should not be a sharp lens and f9 is nothing these days with today's noise reduction software (I use Topaz Denoise AI) high(ish) ISO is no problem. I have a 800 f11 (£650 new) and that's plenty sharp enough so the 200-800 should be fine.

Thanks Butty, though as much but would have expected a leg ring (I do not know where the text above came from!)

Saw this strange coloured bird in the estuary this morning, it was with a similar bird which was pure white - is it an escape or something else?

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Linnet - This one was taken with the RF100-500 + RF 1.4x converter. Still very much enjoying the R7 with a couple of long lenses, for me its been an absolute game changer.

Strap for R7 and 100-500 lens

I also use a Black rapid strap for this combo - works great (been using Black rapid straps for more than 15 years only had two in all that time and that includes carrying combos much more heavy than this relatively lightweight combo).

I never got a really clear view of its tail but the general look tells me its a Barwit what do you think?

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

I have just done a google search for Greenfinch in-flight Frank and those that show the wing in this position are almost all the same, it part of the wing tip. try it yourself.
