    PC recommendations.

Hi all, I've got an Acer, bought in April '17: Windows 10; AMD A10 7800 quad-core plus AMD R7 graphics; 2TB; 8GB DDR. Trouble is, it's always been quite slow, even with my old bridge cameras. Now, for example, with a Canon that produces 32MP files, on download from the camera's memory card...

    Another Eudonia pallida?

Also trapped this one on 12.9.'19; Norfolk, near Fakenham, to MV light; wing-length 8 mm. Must be pallida surely? Thank you, Thomas

Two Crambids and a mystery Tortrix.

Hoping someone can confirm that the first is Crambus uliginosellus, found during the day at Buxton Heath, Norfolk, on 19.7.'19. The second came to an MV on 11.8.'19, near Fakenham; not the best of photos I know, but is this Agriphila latistria? The third came to the MV on the above date but I...

Tiny micros; best kit to take good photos?

I've posted on this forum because taking photos of some, tiny micro species is really pushing the boundaries. I've been using a Panasonic bridge camera (an FZ1000 + a Raynox 250) for a couple of years and it's very challenging trying to get good images of a beast with a forewing length of, say...

Two micros to ID please, Norfolk.

The first (one photo) is either Acleris emargana or A. effractana but that's maybe as far as one can go with this. It was trapped on 22nd September '17. The other 3 photos are of a tiny micro, forewing 3.5 mm, trapped on 26th September 2017. One of the (many) Coleophoridae? Thanks for...

I'd be grateful if the first could be confirmed; trapped on 25.10.'17; 3 photos. The fourth photo was taken on 31.10.'17. Is this a Northern Winter Moth? Thanks, Thomas

New FZ 1000, images not sharp and AF not great.

Hi all, Just wondering if I'd got a bad 'un as images seem OK on the camera's screen but disappointing on a monitor. My old FZ 38 did a better job I reckon. Also, AF doesn't seem to be able to focus on what I want, say a tall, thin stem at a distance of 30 feet or so in front of a tree at 50...

Photoshop Elements 9 and Windows 10.

Does anybody know if PSE 9 can work properly on a Windows 10 PC please? I can download photos in the usual way and see them in the organiser but when I try to edit then save, all I can see in the organiser is a grey box with an image of a torn photo in it. I tried up-dating PSE 9 on several...

Password page not displaying, Windows 10

Usually when the PC is switched on, a screen comes up showing the date and time. One click then brings up a space in the middle where the password is entered. Recently though, the password screen won't show, locking me out. Any ideas as to get round this? TIA, Thomas

    Virginia USA, RFI

I'm due to land in Washington Dulles this Sunday, 24th July. I'm heading for Richmond but will probably try to stay the first night not too far from Washington as it'll have been a long day. Any advice regarding somewhere productive en route where I could go birding that day would be much...

    Yahoo mail: error 0x800CCC90

    External hard drive recommendation.

I'm looking for something to store my photos on; I've got about 7,000 at the moment. I used to back up to DVDs but I'm hoping it'd be easier and possibly cheaper to copy them all over to a new H/D. TIA, Thomas

    Australia field guide:download to I-pad?

I'm trying to find out for someone who's going to Oz soon whether if it's possible to download a f/g as a weight-saving strategy in the field. Any ideas welcomed. TIA, Thomas

Creating an artificial bee and wasp bank.

Any suggestions as to the size required, material used etc. would be most welcome. The site, in Norfolk, is south-facing and open to sunlight. My initial thought was to make a wedge shape ( i.e. like a slice of cake on its side) with the thin edge facing north, using a mixture of sand and...

PS Elements 9 to new system.

PS Elements 9 to new system. I recently had my old PC's hard drive put into a newer PC's tower, as a slave drive. I installed PSE 9 on the newer PC's hard drive and by getting it to search under 'Files and Folders' in the old drive, successfully copied across all my photos. At a prompt, I then...

Four moths and a caterpillar for ID / confirmation please.

    1) A micro; photo taken in my garden, Norfolk, 17th July 2010. 2) Is this Pyrausta purpuralis? It seems that telling these from P. aurata isn't always straight forward. Blickling, Norfolk, 1st August 2010. 3) This must be a Vapourer caterpillar I think, although two of the 'brushes' are dark...
