    Yellow Wag' Subspecific ID: Barcelona

Hi all, I've been having fun wagtails the last few weeks. I've never had the chance to study Yellow Wagtails, coming from Ireland so I'm making the most of my new home and learning a lot. It even led to me finding a male Citrine Wagtail the other day! Anyway, so far I've positively identified...

Hi all, I have been using a Canon 40D with the 300mm f4 and 1.4 converter for about 3 years now and have really enjoyed this combination. However, I would really like to step my game up a bit now and would like better detail and/or reach to my pictures. Can anyone suggest the next logical...

    Semi-collard flycatcher ??? Ethiopia.

Hi Bassel, I mean that this is not a Pied Flycacther (IMO), and is either a semi-collared or collared. The strong second wing-bar does not occur in pied flycatcher, although they can sometimes show a FAINT one. For example, these two birds from Ireland (where neither semi-collared nor collared...

    Semi-collard flycatcher ??? Ethiopia.

The best I can do is rule out Pied Flycatcher, with that strong second wing-bar and large white patch at the base of the primaries.

Bird of Prey Desert, nr Basra Iraq

Just made a stupid mistake :-C. Of course females do not have these white flashes, therefore based on the features listed for picture three, this is a female European Nightjar for me.

Bird of Prey Desert, nr Basra Iraq

This looks very dark and has a broad, pale upper wing-bar covert, as well as a dark carpal bar (see picture 3), therefore I would probably call this a European Nightjar. But it lacks any obvious flight patches (on the wing and tail). I know 1st-autumn European Nightjars can lack these, but am...
