minox 10x42 bl - reassurance please anyone?

My partner has the 8x42 BL's and I prefer them to my Bushnell Natureview 10x42. Her's are an excellent set of bins, I'd have them over mine anyday.

    Rescued Collered Dove..

Here's an update.. Not seen her for a few days now but earlier today my other half said she had see a dove in the garden that looked like the one we saved. She said it held on of it's wings a bit funny which made me go out and have a look. Sure enough there she was looking at me. She can fly a...

    Rescued Collered Dove..

hahaha like it - that me me chuckle. Anyhow, update is she's gone - haven't seen her at all so I assume she's mastered flying at last. I still check the hedge on a night just in case. Hopefully a happy ending. |8)|

    Rescued Collered Dove..

Aye, 'tis a young'un - this years I reckon as it's only just got its collar. Because I'm the only one that's handled her she doesn't seem to mind me and if I stay still she'll come up to me but goes as soon as anyone else gets closer. She's still in the hedge but has moved higher up and a bit...

    Rescued Collered Dove..

Still not flying properly, but walking around the garden. I've been keeping her in a pet carrier in our shed overnight (with bedding, food and water) so foxes/cats can't get to her. Then out in the guinea pig run during the day so she can stretch her legs/wings and have a kip when she wants one...

    Rescued Collered Dove..

Well, she's (I'll call it a she but not sure) doing fine - not strong enough to fly yet. I got her out first thing this morning and put her on top of my growbag greenhouse in the sun to warm up and dry out a bit more. Rung our lass up from work later on in the day and she told me little dove...

Things You Would Rather Not Hear...

walk into hide and start scratching yourself and say 'Jeeez, I wish I'd gone to the clinic last night... I'm itching like buggery today.' or.. 'KOFF!..everyone in here has been KOFF! inoculated for TB haven't they? KOFF!' or.. 'UGH! my colostomy bag has leaked again, anyone got any tissues?'

    Rescued Collered Dove..

Just checked on it again - s/he's settled down fr the night by the looks of it - spread its wings slightly and is nodding off. I'll be checking on it first thing in the morning to see how it is. My other half is at home tomorrow so she can keep an eye on it. It doesn't seem to be in any distress...

    Birds @ Ben Nevis Area

Last time I went to Fort William we stayed at the Loch Lochie caravan park just down the Mallaig road. The only time we saw a Goldie was on the way home as we pulled out of the park - it was flying in the mists near to the top of Ben Nevis. Typical eh?

    Rescued Collered Dove..

Well. it's moving a bit more so that's a good sign. It's feathers are still waterlogged and it's still panting a bit. Hopefully by tonight it should have gained enough strength to move around and dried out a bit more.

    Rescued Collered Dove..

Just rescued a collered dove out of our pond, totally waterlogged but breathing - and by the looks of it exhausted. I've patted it down with kitchen paper and removed any leaves etc. that were stuck to it. I've got a pet carry box and put lots of dry hay in the bottom (plus some bird seed) and...

    Woodpecker? Fairburn Ings

Ah, so it is a red herring - our lass said it was, could've been written into a Monty Python sketch then.. lol. Nearly fooled me as I wasn't paying much attention to it, and it didn't move at all in 2 hours - was still there after a long walk. First time to Fairburn Ings, nice place, will be...

    Woodpecker? Fairburn Ings

Saw a Kingfisher and this was perched nearby (saw both in my bins). My other half thinks it's a fake put there by someone. Had a look through my bird guide and all the pics of woodpeckers that looked similar had red heads, this one has a yellow head. The pics was taken on my Canon Ixus through...

What's your favourite seabird colony ?

Bempton cliffs isn't far from me so we go there quite a lot - sometimes just for a walk so that has to be my favourite place. Only been to Marwick Head once, but thoroughly enjoyed it - laid on my belly looking over the cliff edge photographing Razorbills. Been to Spurn Head once as well, but...

    Mull Top Sites

Just drive round lots to see, otters by the pontoon, eagles everywhere. Best thing we did was book a tour with DiscoverMull, a cracking day out and gave us an idea where to look for everything from Otters to Orchids (as well as Eagles) If you want to go to Loch Frisa, either be prepared for a...

    Minox vs Nikon SE

What about the new lightweight Minox roof prism jobbies? My other half has the 8x42 version, and they are a cracking pair of bins. There are also available in 8x32 as well

    Argyll, Scotland

Go though Lochgilpead, past Adrishaig (sp?) and take the turn off to Kilberry (very nice place, bit of history - has old stones there and a very nice pub that has won awards for its food). The road carries on till it gets back on the main road at Tarbert. Remember seeing red squirels down there...

    Intelligent Collard Dove?!

Well, we've got young collered dove around our feeders - must be still green as while watching telly it flew into the window twice, then then perched on our car looking bemused.

    Camera Straps

Might get one myself, my other half got me a Jessies (for) Nikon strap - one of the Nylon ones - not very nice and quick reactions stopped my camera dropping onto concrete when the buckle came undone on its own. Though being an F4E I expect the concrete would have come off worse.. lol

    Bird Hide Users Take Note!

Plasterers radio eh, made me chuckle as I'm a plasterer and my radio is a bit blathered.. Think I've been lucky, most hides we've been to are usualy pretty good. The only one I didn't like was in Scotland somewhere - the windows wouldn't open (they said it was due to the dreaded midges, after I...

second camera d1x or fuji s3

The D1x looks like a great camera, wouldn't mind one myself but the battery life is supposed to be very poor. There is a new D2Xs coming out so all the others should be coming down in price. Never fancied a camera based on the F80 though. (think you can get decent batteries from another source...

    Cheaper alternatives to Photoshop?

Also, have you considered a computer fair? Sometimes you can get older versions of Photoshop quite cheap and then you can upgrade it to the latest version (as long as it isn't registered that is). I saw a CS2 upgrade, boxed, the other day for just under £90 Just a thought.
