A 10 mile round trip, in search of new birds.
first destination, hope and Fagle Lane quarry or more precisly a large area of standing water. This was the furthest away I traveled. Not much overall, coot, widgon, pochard and gulls on the water, corvids and cormorants on this large and old metal...
quick chat to the RSPB peregrine project leader today revealed that their latest victem was a lapwing. which they never ate as unusually they fought over it. They also feed on woodcock and kestrel!
I set myself the task to see all the resident UK corvids on new years day, so a trip to anglesey was in order.
Carrion crows where easy, as where jackdaws and rooks. South stack produced the goods with chough, raven and one of the resident hooded crows. However, I failed to connect with a jay...

I convinced the family to head over to Conwy at 6:30 pm. The sun was in front of us and bright for most of the journey until we arrived at llandudno, where it was hidden behind the orme, and an RAF sea king helicopter hovered below the horizon. We traveled round on the marine drive and up into...

Day 1
We departed at 12:00 and arrived on site at 13:30. after setting up we headed onto Holy island and south stack. A bite to eat from the café and a quick sea watch with the light in the wrong place produced only a few gulls. A few Chough flew about. But no where near as many species as is...
Any advice? I'd like one with a decent sized hard drive and processor. and a good battery life, mainly for storing and editing photos wifi would be good but not essential as i have a usb adapter.
3 local birders including myself headed out at 9pm in search of some birds, we had 2 targets, woodcock and night jar.
after arriving at the location, we looked for what would probably be the best spot, 2 other birders where across the clearing and a bit lower down from us.
Plenty of birds called...

Hi all,
I'm planning on purchasing the sigma 50-500mm in the near future so I'm looking for a new (or used) tripod and head combo that is reasonably light and is quite small when packed. Not sure of the budget yet but I'm planning to get the lens of ebay (approx £500 inc p&p) I'm unsure how...
I was At Worlds end for a a few hours this morning. (Now those who Can't tell I came up with the title after the new Film Pirates of the Caribbean, At Worlds end.)
a glimpse of a bird that I had no clue to its ID, camera was in the boot and we went passed too fast. Meadow pipits entertained...
