Confused which camera body with 500PF

Finally resolved my question with a Z9. Lovely camera and lens. Very happy.

    Falco peregrinus pealei in Japan?

Thank you for your feedback, Patudo. I believe we haven't been able to study the movements of such falcons from their home ranges. Now many of us are taking more pictures, so we can gather better records than in the past. I discovered a book, "Peregrines of the World" published in 2013, but it's...

Anyone using a Z6ii for birds in November 2021?

Actually, I see Moose Peterson recommending the Z6ii with Nikkor 500 Pf for birds on Youtube too. In his kit 5 months ago, he had D6s and Z6iis. Obviously speed and low light performance is more important to him than resolution such as a D850 or Z7ii.

Anyone using a Z6ii for birds in November 2021?

Hi all, I'm thinking now of getting a Z6ii to pair with my Nikkor 500 PF. I have been using a D500 and a Df. -Mostly the D500 for birds but I have been wanting an FX body. I was going to get a D850, but then thought about a Z7ii, and now with the Z9 in the wind, I'm thing of a Z6ii. I see Moose...

    Falco peregrinus pealei in Japan?

Thank you for your supportive reply, Alexander. I am happy with the advice of the expert and have had further correspondence. I haven't mentioned his name in case someone disagrees with him and pursues it. I was disappointed with the original feedback of the bird I first posted, but I then...

    Falco peregrinus pealei in Japan?

I have had feedback about this from a reliable source and it is not a Peale's Falcon. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time.

    Falco peregrinus pealei in Japan?

Hello. I have been in Japan for many years now. I have often felt that I've seen different subspecies of peregrine at different times of the year. I bought a new bird guide last year that said there are 5 subspecies that can be found here. It can be difficult judging between immature and adult...

Confused which camera body with 500PF

Thank you for your feedback. I’d like a Z9, but maybe the Z7ii will be more practical for me. I feel if I get a D850 now, I’ll be missing out on easy 4K recording and eye detect focusing. I think the D850 would just be like the D500 in many ways. And although it is fantastic now, maybe I’d want...

Confused which camera body with 500PF

Hello. I have been dreaming for the last two years about getting a new camera body to go with the Nikkor 500 f5.6 PF. I have been using it on a D500, but often find the field of view a bit narrow and thought maybe an FX model would suit it better. I admit, I am bit of a Goldilocks, because I...

A beautiful portrait of a true Aussie gem. I think they get radio waves from all the universe with that crest.

    Peregrine Egret attack

I was looking at the snow covered mountains through my 500mm lens when a Peregrine appeared right in the middle of the viewfinder far, far away. I followed it as it accelerated closer and realised a poor Great Egret was casually cruising over the water. It seemed the falcon had the egret in its...

Beautiful markings on this individual and beautifully captured. They have strong legs, don't they? I used to think they were lazy falcons, but now I regard them as being quite powerful.

    About Vultures and Australia...

I was just suggesting that maybe existing vultures evolved after the extinction of Australian megafauna, and that vultures exist where large herd animals roamed. I think you restated what I was suggesting. I cannot back it up, and would need to do much more research. I'm told there are already...

    About Vultures and Australia...

I am still interested in seeing more about the discussion. As I said earlier, I was mad about raptors when I was a kid and my raptor books had pictures of amazing Gryphons and Condors and I was jealous why I didn't have any floating around my house in Australia. I need answers.

    About Vultures and Australia...

I emailed a learned friend who got out all his books and emailed me back. He said there were a lot of contradictions on the matter. However, he pointed out that Australia has a lot of monitor lizards that fill the role of scavengers. Also, I just realised that Australia still maintains strict...

    About Vultures and Australia...

This is a great question. It kept me awake many a night when I was young. I will keep an eye on this thread. My guess as for the behavioural side of things is that Wedge-tailed Eagles are large, very aggressive and can gather in groups thus warding off competing scavengers. That said, also, a...
