Thanks for that! And I'm sorry that you had to do the leg-work for me, I should have looked harder.

    Goshawk tips required.

I'm hoping to see a Goshawk this year but I think I'm going to need some help. I live in Derby and I understand that Windy corner is a good place to try but when is the best time to try? Is there a best time of day? Any tips would be appreciated. Cheers.

What do you find most frustrating about birding?

And trying to land on birds in flight with cheap bino's with a field of view of 18 inches at a thousand yards.

What do you find most frustrating about birding?

I was at Holme a few weeks ago and through years of experience completely failed to see a yellow browed warbler that my friend stood ten feet away saw quite clearly. He is no longer my friend...

    Rate the birding seasons 1-4.

I'd put spring first, 'cause it's more romantic than autumn. And the ducks are easier to identify since they're not moulting. Then autumn. Then winter, 'cause there's little foliage on the trees which makes birding easier. Then summer, 'cause there's too much foliage and I can see bugger all.

    Derby cathedral Peregrines

A couple of peregrines appear to have taken up residence on Derby cathedral. This makes sense to me as pigeons of course are two a penny in the city centre. However, I read on a local site that the remains of a Jay had been found at the site which takes the prey items up to 22! Twenty two prey...

    unusual prey

Once saw a sparrowhawk chasing a kingfisher. The kingfisher evaded it with a quick U-turn and sped off the way it came and the sparrowhawk, after breifly splashing into the water, chased after it. Quite exciting it was...

    Greetings from Derby

In a single stroke, you've plummeted in my estimation! And on SF books, I recently finished reading the Night's Dawn trilogy by Peter F Hamilton (took me about a year, I'm not a prolific reader) which I found similar in scope to Banks and thoroughly enjoyed.

    Greetings from Derby

Indeed! Nice to see some one with good taste! (I'm assuming you have read them too and didn't just google my name). And thanks for the warm welcome all, feeling at home already.

    Greetings from Derby

Hi all! Pleased to have found this site. Just what I've been looking for! Just getting back into birding after a work/wife/kids related hiatus and have definitely got the bug again. Enjoyed a trip to Titchwell and Holme recently and completely failed to see a yellow browed warbler which my...
