    FZ50 and TCON17 Review

FZ50 and TCON17 Flying Birds I have been using this set up for awhile with good results, not great but very good (take a lot of pictures, burst mode). For in flight shots i use high speed center focus, IS #2, ISO 100 and follow the bird in the viewfinder. Set the focus and hold down the shutter...

    FZ50 and TCON17 Review

When I first got this outfit I had very good results taking in flight shots, now I am having trouble. I hate to comment on this subject now but will get back as soon as I figure it out. I am going to look at the default settings and see if I changed something.

    Bushnell Elite 80 Angled Review

The first Pentax I received had a speck of material or a chip in the glass inside the scope and the eyepiece was stuck on 20X, I had to mount it to force it loose, it never was very smooth after that. The second scope I received was out of focus on the left side about 20-25%, I rotated the...

    FZ50 and TCON17 Review

I ran a test and the conversion setting does make a difference, exposure. I could not find any information on how it changes the camera but I will keep looking. I also looked at a 2mp, 3mp, 5mp, 8mp, 10mp, photo and to the best of my abililty, for now, I could not see any difference when...

    FZ50 and TCON17 Review

I ordered the remote yesterday directly from Panasonic, a review at DPReview showed the part number as VYC0913 for $15. Thats $10 cheaper than the DMW-RS1, which has been replaced by the VYC0913, and $60 cheaper than the DMW-RSL1, either will work according to the FZ50 manual and I do not know...

    Bushnell Elite 80 ED Review

This scope only uses Bushnell bayonet eyepieces, I assume the Baader is a 1.25". I just tested this one, I got the feeling that Bushnell has a good quality control program. The box was taped and sealed at the factory and double boxed. The star test is not easy and I am no expert but I had some...

    Bushnell Elite 80 ED Review

I purchased the Elite a month ago with a 3001BD tripod and 701RC2 head. The scope is good quality, lightweight, small, no defects, star test results were good, view is bright and clear, focus is smooth, zoom eyepiece is smooth, comes with a nice case with strap, screw on front lens cap, eyepiece...

    FZ50 and TCON17 Review

I purchased the FZ50 camera and the Olympus TCON17 telephoto lens about 3 weeks ago. Have taken about 200 bird photos and the results are very, very good. I am still refining my technique and it may take a few more months to find out what works best. I still have the the FZ10 which I used for...

    Bushnell Elite 80 Angled Review

I have looked through all the different scopes, and yes the very expensive ones are very nice but this scope is just fine. It has a nice bag with strap and a screw on lens cover with sun shade. I have purchased and returned the Pentax 80 and Bushnell Browning 65. The Browning was a very nice...

    DSLR/500mm, FZ50/Telephoto Or Crop?

Very nice "spider", no bleeding, crisp edges, nice. Well I puchased the FZ50 and the TCON17 and I will return with some images over the next month. I may end up also buying the SLR, we will see.

    DSLR/500mm, FZ50/Telephoto Or Crop?

Thanks gmax, you have a couple of good setups. Not sure what the prime 400 cost, but it is popular, I will look into it, especially the Tamaron lens.

    DSLR/500mm, FZ50/Telephoto Or Crop?

Thanks for the info postcardcv. You are so right, speed is king in bird photography. As I was typing my question I knew what the outcome may be. Not only do you have all the advantages of the quick, high iso DSLR, but the usually faster and better lens without having to add a seperate lens like...

    DSLR/500mm, FZ50/Telephoto Or Crop?

Thanks for the info. The FZ50 has a special feature called "extra optical zoom", its pretty cool. It allows you to set the megapixel value which will increase the zoom multiplier factor. It reduces the size of the sensor that is being used. It has four values (approx), 10MP (12x35mm), 8MP...

    DSLR/500mm, FZ50/Telephoto Or Crop?

Can I get better results from cropping a photo in Photoshop than adding a longer lens? Will using more megapixels help me achieve better results when cropping? I read a review on the FZ50 telephoto lens and he said he had better results from cropping than adding the lens. I have the FZ10 and...

Reasonably priced, bright scope for Christmas.

Look at the Celestron Ultima 80 ED or 100 ED water proof scope. You can unscrew the rubber eyecup and screw on a "T" adapter to attach your slr directly to the zoom eyepiece, cool huh. It sells for as little as $400 US and comes with a full lifetime "no fault" warranty, good luck.

    Pentax K100D Image stabalised DSLR

I called Pentax yesterday, the shake reduction either must recognize the focal length of the lens or it can be manualy set. It can be set for a maximum of 800mm, he said that would include the 1.5 multiplier, so a 500mm lens will give you 750mm. My local store technician brought up another...

    Digiscoping?-back to square one

K100d Are you using the K100D or the DL body? The shake reduction will only work up to 800mm focal length and it has to be manualy set or the lens has to tell it what focal length it is. They also told me that the 800mm included the 1.5 multiplier factor for digital censor.

A note: Digiscoping with angled 85T*

Shutter Release Adapter Thanks, this is the one I came up with, it's one inch thin aluminum bent to shape and wrap around the camera. It has a hole on the bottom where the tripod threaded hole is. I use this with a universal adapter.

Nikon eyepieces and other manufacturers' bodies

I think Nikon has a "No Fault" warranty, they will replace or fix your scope for $25.

A note: Digiscoping with angled 85T*

Can You tell us what size thread you used for the cable release? I have looked hard and have not found a tap, the best I can figure is 5mm pitch 28 threads per inch or something like that, but I cant find anything in the us like that.

    Poor Quality Control, Pentax Scopes

Poor Quality Control Or Bad Luck? I purchased the angled PF80ED with the 20x60 zoom, the Bogen 701RC2/190V tripod, window pod, large universal digiscoping adapter and use a Pentax WR43 camera. These scopes looked brand new and in factory sealed cartons. The first problem was a spot on the...

    Digiscoping?-back to square one

Tried And Failed Just thought I would let you know I tried the PF80 with the SMC zoom with the large universal digiscope adapter and it did not work for me. The adapter can only be placed on the close and far end of the eyepiece. The adapter plate would not allow enough travel to attach the...
