    Why do peoply buy $2500 binoculars ?

    If, as a lot of people apparently very fervently believe, virtually the same level of performance can be had for $1500 less, why do so many people buy them ? I'm not going to argue my opinion here, it just seems to be such a polarizing topic. Are people really that eager to throw their money away.

    Can a $300 binocular compete with a $1900 binocular ?

    The answer seems to be no. I believe the Minox is slightly more resolving of micro detail in certain instances, but the overall view of the SV is addictive. I wish I had the new Zeiss SF here to compare. If it truly is better, then why not spend a few more dollars and be done with it.

    Accessing optical quallity. Complicated or simple ?

    Do you have to be a grizzled old expert with years of experience and a long list of criteria, or can a rank novice using what he sees with his own eyes as a reference make a judgement as to the quality of a particular optic, either by itself, or in comparison to other optics ?
