    a skylark and a swallow

Japanese Skylark is producing the dreaded "red X". The image can be found in the gallery here. The image presently under Cinnamon-throated Cave Swallow is in fact a regular Cave Swallow. (Cinnamon-throated is the West Indian form of this split and is well out of range in south Texas.)

    Blue Cuckooshrike

Over in the Patagonian Tinamou thread Niels mentioned that a fuzzy image was preferable to no image at all. In that spirit I dug through my files to present a slightly blurry record shot of the Blue Cuckooshrike Coracina azurea, presently missing from the database.

The database presently has no image listed for the Western Curve-billed Thrasher (Toxostoma palmeri). The photo presently under Curve-billed Thrasher (T. curvirostre) is in fact a Western Curve-bill (Tucson, Arizona), and so should be moved. Here is a fine example of the (eastern) Curve-billed...

    Dealing with non-English characters.

I've just been trying to make a redirect for the Swedish island of Öland. This looks like it works fine within opus. On the bf front page it instead generated a string of text like this: Öland leading to a blank entry. I tried replacing that with a redirect and it generated another one...

I've just had a tour through Category:Birds resolving the various entries of the form "Golden-winged or Bar-breasted Piculet" to settle on one name for ease of searching and use in location entries. (Objective being that no future user has to guess "Eurasian or European Golden Plover" or...
