Perched Raptor, Kinabatangan River, Sabah, Malaysia, 28 Sept. '23

Hoping for help with this back view of a raptor I'm having trouble with. Uncertain whether the tail:wings ratio and the whitish wing coverts (shoulders) are diagnostic or just more variable noise. Thanks...

    Sunbird - Sepilok, Sabah, Malaysia

A couple of off angle shots of what I think is a red-throated sunbird but could be a brown-throated? I lean toward the former given the separation of the iridescent and nonstructural colored feathers on the back better matches the illustration in Phillips and Phillips. 22 Sept. '23 at...

Soaring Raptors, Menara Kayangan (Tower of Heaven) - near Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia

At the turn-off from the main highway for the road to Danum Valley is the entrance for Menara Kayangan, which is ~1/2 way up Mt. Silam. I highly recommend as the platform in front of the tower is potentially a good site for soaring raptors. The morning I was there conditions weren't great with...

Juvenile Night Heron - Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia

I'm uncertain whether one can distinguish between the Rufous (Nankeen) and Black-crowned juveniles. Hope one of you can.

    Soaring raptor Sepilok, Borneo

Excuse the miserable shots that I've lightened and cropped radically to try to see some field marks. 22 September 2023 above the Rainforest Discovery Center.

Borneo, Kinabalu Ntl Prk, Sabah, Malaysia

Here are a few more that confirmation of my IDs for these first-time birds would be appreciated. One of the originals was horribly under- exposed and I've radically lightened what I think is a Pale Blue Flycatcher. I think the bulbul is a Pale-faced bulbul and the other is a golden-naped barbet...

Borneo - Kinabalu Natl. Park, Sabah, Malaysia 18 Sept. '23

Shot taken at the point on the mountain where climbers begin the ascent. Fairly certain this is a Sunda Bush Warbler but wanted to get the opinion from those more familiar with the area's birds. As I work my way through the 3,301 shots taken I'm sure I'll be back for more help. Terima kasih!

Shorebirds, Iwahig Penal Farm, Palawan, Philippines 6 & 7 March 2023

There were several of the first scolopacids, what I convinced myself were Common Greenshanks, actively feeding in the transitional rice paddy. I'm uncertain about the plover in the 2nd pic with the common sandpiper on the left. Thanks...

A raptor: Zig Zag Road, Palawan, Philippines 7 Mar. '23

Lightened grossly to correct - Crested Serpent-Eagle, no? Mahalo🤟 That's the closest imogee to a shaka but, it's not right!)

Shorebird, Iwahig Prison, Palawan, Philippines 7 Mar '23

Cropped only, lousy long shot. I'm not up to speed on 'old world' shorebirds. My best guess is green? Thanks...

Egret ID near Sabang, Palawan, Philippines

Yet another white egret - using the gape - eye relationship this appears to be a great egret? Allen's maps show that they are not found one Palawan. Any help appreciated!

    Egret ID: Sabang, Palawan, Philippines

I suspect this may be a Chinese egret, though would like some input with those more familiar with the species. Early March this year in marsh/rice paddy habitat. Clearly larger than nearby little egret. Thanks...

    Philippines Feb-Mar '23 (Candaba, Luzon)

Just back from near 3 weeks, Luzon-Palawan-Cebu-Bohol, with several pics I'll need expert help with - I know I'm able to tap a wealth of knowledge and greatly appreciate the help given my largely US experience. This individual was at the Candaba rice-fields (RIP Candaba Bird Sanctuary...

Rock Pipit? Brittany coast 22 September

My initial ID in the field was rock pipit, though would appreciate confirmation (or not?) from those more familiar with European birds than I ... thanks.

Another from Brittany, near Trebeurden, 22 Sept. 2021

Another that this yank was unable to puzzle out. Thanks for your help.

Brittany, near Trebeurden, 22 Sept. 2021.

Likely just a garden warbler but virtually no experience with European species so pardon my ignorance. For some reason the somewhat pronounced, IMO, eye-ring didn't match-up with any plates in Birds of Europe, 2nd ed. Two shots of same bird, cropped and lightened. Thanks in advance ... Steve

    Hokkaido mid-June 2012

Found some long lost photos and hoping for a bit of help with a few. Given my limited experience in that part of the world just not that familiar with what are likely routine for some of you. Most were from the Notsuke Penninsula, though not sure about the rosefinch. Apologies if I screw this up...

Another overhead raptor near Dalat, Vietnam 1 Dec ' 19

These have been cropped and lightened to make ID more likely. Either an accipiter of accipiter-like bird. B (:

A soaring raptor near Dalat, Vietnam, 1 Dec '19.

Four shots of a raptor overhead. Cropped and lightened in an attempt to make field marks more visible. I suspect this is a Jerdon's Baza but with little experience of SE Asian raptors, am uncertain.

Just looking for confirmation that this is a Grey-breasted Prinia ... thanksB (:

Cuc Phuong Natl Park 2 weeks past (21 Nov '19)

Bounced this one with Richard Craik and he 'agreed' with my guess of a sub-adult (bird-of-the-year?) male Japanese Thrush. This bird was quite agro chasing shamas and fulvettas while monopolizing the meal worm bait the guide had put out. I've cropped and in some cases increased exposure as it...

Cat Tien Natl Park Viet Nam

Hoping for an id of what seems a flycatcher based on the bill. Went through what's there and two possibilities rose to the top ... Blue-and-white and a Hainan Blue female. The second shot is crap but included as with great increase in exposure, seems to show tail color, not blue. thanks in...

Reed Warbler? Bueng Boraphet, Cent. Thailand

I wish I had more shots from different angles but ... hopefully, this front view will be enough. My best guess after quite a while with field guides and websites is Oriental Reed Warbler. Confidence for my guess ... very little8-P 3 shots of the same individual on 24 Jan 2018. In reeds etc...

Weaver sp. ID help. Bueng Boraphet, Cent. Thailand

Streaked, Baya, and Asian Golden Weavers are all found there. That said, I think the bill/head shape makes these Golden Weavers, but would like confirmation as I'm not terribly confident of my ID. These are different individuals, all shots in reeds/vegetation along canals associated with rice...
