Female Redstart ? - Corbett NP, India 1-2-10

It's ISO 1600 so a bit noisy but you can definitely see the blue

Female Redstart ? - Corbett NP, India 1-2-10

Some excellent spotting by Pete Haines - there's a faint blue shoulder patch on photo #1 so it's a Small Niltava

Female Redstart ? - Corbett NP, India 1-2-10

Definitely no tail-flicking at any stage - I think that rules out Slaty-Blue Fly. I think the tail is too long for Little Pied Fly

Female Redstart ? - Corbett NP, India 1-2-10

By the side of the main road north of the Dangardi Gate near Mohan. Spotted feeding on the road, it then flew up and perched on a stump. Initial impression was a very grey/green bird with an obvious chestnut brown tail and rump - I'm thinking female Redstart but which species ??

Bird Guide - Playa Larga - Chino ?

Does anyone have an email address for Chino or any other bird guide in the Playa Larga area ? I'm going over in February and need accomodation and a guide sorting out. I've tried [email protected] which bounces with 'too many hops' and [email protected] and got no answer...

    Atlas listing

SJ89N (central Manchester) - I'm up to 10 species now, including Peregrine which isn't bad from an 8th floor view from an office block. Looking forward to starting my 2 tetrads over the weekend in north Cheshire.

Going to Bharatpur next week and...

Avoid the Forest Lodge at all costs - horrible 1960's era Soviet style concrete block with rude staff and no hot water. Falcon is very friendly and does nice meals, bike hire etc. I hope for your sake there is water there - it was bone dry in November and very few birds - loads of Jackals...

    Tarts tick....

I'm with PaulD definition #1 - I thought it was a sighting of a rareish bird which took very little effort because it was so obvious or it had been staked out - such as Sammy the Stilt at Titchwell which was an easy tick for a year list.

    Bharatpur - October

Yes the numbers have plumeted. For example there were no Pied Kingfishers at all and maybe 2 or 3 Grey Herons and no Purple Herons or Gallinules. There were a lot of Jackals though.

    Bharatpur - October

Just returned from India. I was at Bharatpur on 1st November and unfortunately the rumours are true. There is very little water at all ! Compared with a visit 5 years ago which was a 'wet' year I would say bird numbers are down 90%. They are pumping up groundwater at two locations resulting in...

    Bharatpur - October

I've heard tell of a patch of wetland some 45 minutes drive away from Bharatpur - a river bed on the old Agra road which has had water this year - anyone heard of this ?

    Bharatpur - October

We stayed at the Falcon several years ago. A very friendly owner and he will rent you bikes. Also his cook would rustle up whatever you fancied, such as egg & chips and one night we had a very nice aubergine dish. It was a bit chilly at night but we did go in January.

Where is best place to buy CF cards?

After reading various articles on pirate CF cards I managed to test my "SAN Ultra" card in a friend's PDA and of course my 'bargain' is in fact not a SAN card at all but a Redstone or something and a lower spec than the SAN. The problem is you can't read the card's identifier from a PC as it...

How many people have seen over 200 different species of bird in the UK?

On 253 after about 10 years - I mainly birdwatch within about a 50 mile radius of Manchester on a Sunday morning, and the odd organised coach trip with local RSPB groups to North Wales, Norfolk or Scotland, so I'm only adding 1 or 2 new ones per year. I'm now on 183 for Cheshire & Wirral, with...
