S.E. Florida - Odd looking warbler ID needed

Excellent point. At least in American English, the meaning of a word or term is determined by its common usage. There is no "Bureau of American English" or anyone who determines definitions but rather how everyone who uses the word or term (I can't speak as to how it is done in other countrys...

Woodpecker type bird, Merritt Island, FL, USA

Thanks for the ID. I see Red-bellied Woodpeckers almost every day (they are very common around my house) but this one threw me, maybe because of the slightly different coloration as mentioned above.

Woodpecker type bird, Merritt Island, FL, USA

Would appreciate some ID help with this bird. Seemed to behave like a woodpecker. Think I've seen a flicker at this location before but doesn't look like one to me. Thank you. Jack

    Raptor ID, Viera, FL, USA

Thanks, everyone, for the ID and the photo comments. It was easy to photograph since it was so close. It flew off and caught a large dragonfly shortly afterwards. Jack

    Raptor ID, Viera, FL, USA

This was a fairly small bird and not at all skittish. Seen on 28 November, 2016. Thanks in advance for any ID. Jack

    Florida Duck - November 20

    Love the first photo.

Lakeland, FL - This past weekend

Good luck with the photo. I think Belted Kingfishers must be one of the most skittish birds around. After years of trying and hundreds of mediocre photos, I finally lucked into a few good shots recently at Viera Wetlands where they are fairly common.

Tampa, FL / Egret or Heron?

Juvenile Little Blue Heron for me as well due to reasons already listed.

Warblers and Something, Central FL, USA

Thank you for the IDs. I was using auto white balance on a Nikon D300 and raw file conversion was done by Capture One 9, both of which normally work very well. The shadows were adjusted on the 2 gnatcatcher photos but there were no adjustments at all to the cardinal or mockingbird photos other...

Warblers and Something, Central FL, USA

Would appreciate some help with IDs from these photos. 1 and 2 are surely the same. Not sure if 3 is enough to go on but I'll bet it is for all the experts on this forum. Thanks!

Juvenile Yellow-capped night heron - Boston, MA

Black-crowned for me. The dot pattern on the wings in the 2nd photo looks just like the drawing for a juvenile in flight in my Sibley's (1st ed).

Warblers and Woodpecker, Central FL, USA

Thank you. Three more new species for me. It's amazing how many different ones you can see in such a small area if you are just patient enough. These were in a narrow bank between a street and a small lake with mature cypress, oak, and pine trees where I've seen many other species as well.

Warblers and Woodpecker, Central FL, USA

I was needing some help identifying at least a couple of these birds. They were photographed 4 September 2016. I could certainly be wrong but thought the first might be a Yellow-throated Warbler, the second a Downy Woodpecker (possibly juvenile), and no idea on the rest (I'm pretty sure the...
