    Bird call, Fraser's Hill Malaysia

Hi all, I recorded this at Fraser's Hill in August this year but didn't see it. Sounds like a drongo to me, possibly Bronzed Drongo? I haven't found an exact match in my trawling through various bird vocalisation resources, but am aware drongos have a large repertoire. Other possible drongo...

    Pomarine Skua? from Calais-Dover ferry

Hi all, I took these distant photos today from the Calais-Dover ferry. Photos rather grainy due to distance (or lens not long enough!) so some of the finer details not clear, but I'm leaning towards Pom rather than Arctic due to broad wings and overall 'bulky' feel. However I'm not at all...

Unknown bird call near Baths of Aphrodite, Cyprus, 6 May

Hi all, I recorded this bird call from a wooded valley near the Baths of Aphrodite in northwest Cyprus last week, but not too sure what it is. Quite a loud call - I was on a path on the other side of the valley and the sound was carrying well. Any thoughts? I guess it could be a Great Tit...

Bird of prey, Khao Yai National Park, Thailand

My friend sent this photo to me of a very distant bird of prey (photo heavily cropped) seen at Khao Yai earlier today. I'm not sure, possibly Osprey? Wing shape doesn't look quite right to me (too broad?) but not sure what else it could be. Thanks

Richards Pipit? in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand

My friend sent me this photo of a pipit, taken today at Pak Phli, Nakhon Nayok, Thailand. I'm thinking Richard's Pipit rather than Paddyfield, but is it possible to be sure with this rather distant photo? I don't have experience of separating these two species in the field, so would like a...

    Teal? - Boismont, Picardie, France

Hi all, just trying to confirm what this duck is at the front right of the photo, associating with a pair of Wigeon and a couple of Shoveler (one out of view). Saw it on a canal in Picardie, northern France just over a week ago. I guess Teal? but the colouring is a bit interesting, quite a bit...

    Bullfinch call? Cannock Chase

Had this bird calling on Cannock Chase yesterday afternoon but remained stubbornly unseen. I think probably Bullfinch? Can’t think what else it could be. But don’t get Bullfinch much near me so am not very sure. Thanks in advance for any help! Reuben

    Treecreeper call?

I recorded this bird call a couple of weeks ago at Totteridge Valley, London. I'm guessing it's Treecreeper young or fledglings? It's a bit different to usual Treecreeper calls, which I'm familiar with. Interested in people's views. Thanks! Reuben

Unusual bird call, Hampstead Heath, London

Heard a call I didn't recognise this morning from a thicket of bushes on Parliment Hill. It seemed to be a Wren making the call but didn’t get a definitive look. Never heard a Wren make this call before. Any thoughts? The bird calls twice, once at the start and once at the end of the recording

    LBBG or YLG?

Another tricky bird on the River Thames in London today. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks in advance

    Lesser Black-backed or Yellow-legged Gull?

I'm really struggling to identify which gull this is in the attached photo. It looks much lighter and whiter-headed than the other juvenile LBBGs in the area, but I'm not convinced it's Yellow-legged. Can anyone confirm? And say what diagnostic features help you to nail the ID? Photo taken next...

    Taiwan baby bird

    Flight calls?

Does anybody know the best audio or sound guide for flight calls of British birds? I'd love to be able to distinguish finch calls in flight! Thanks Reuben

Opticron Imagic BGA SE vs Vortex Viper

I know this ground has been covered pretty well so do excuse this new thread. I'm thinking of buying one of these two. Has anybody been able to compare them side by side? What's the verdict? In London, there is nowhere where I can compare them side by side. In the UK, the Opticron is going...

    Bird call ID, Singapore

Hi, I recorded a bird call in Singapore's Sime Forest and need some help with ID. I did see the bird, was shape and size of Asian Fairy Bluebird but the light was too bad to see anything but the outline of the bird. Any SE Asia bird call experts out there? Link to video...

    Berlin on public transport

Hi Anybody any ideas on best places to go in Berlin at end of August to see birds that you can't see/that are difficult to see in London? I am going for business this weekend but might get an afternoon to travel around (public transport only) I'm thinking of Wannsee and Spandauer Forest at...

    Photo taken in Sabah, Borneo

Can anybody ID this bird? I can't even get close. Photo taken recently in a place called Gua Gomantong, Sabah, Borneo. Not by me though, by a guy in the e-mail group I am a member of. This is the only pic he has. Apparently, the habitat was lowland rainforest. thanks Reuben

    Hampstead Heath regulars?

Hello London birders! How many of you out there have hampstead Heath as your local patch? It is my local patch although I don't go there nearly as often as I should, but I'm going to try and do it more regularly. If I can get into a good habit, I'd like to do a blog like the one Tony Duckett...
