Did any1 hear Jeremy Vine on Radio2 today? He spoke to a so-called Japanese scientist who reckons they have to kill 1000 Whales a year so they can see how old the Whales are from their Ear wax. Ones things for sure 'There not gonna get any older' And this information apparently will tell them...

    Pegwell Bay, Kent 21-10-2007

After a miserable morning failing to put flat pack wardrobes together, i went for a wonder at Pegwell during low tide. It must have been half a mile to the water line, but thousands of birds were waiting for me. At the carpark, a pair of Stonechats were flitting around bushes and not much...

1000's of Martins and the odd Swallow

Even though we are now in OctoberA the resident House Martins are still feeding over our Factory. I only mentioned yesterday that the dozen or so were still there, thinking they would have gone by now. And i wondered when they might depart. Well today saw a change in their behaviour. This...

    Black Swans at Great Stonar

Saw a nice pair of Black Swans at Stonar lake yesterday. They didnt leave each other alone, never farther apart than about 2 feet. There were also 3 Kingfishers, 2 were chasing each other when a 3rd flew under my nose and into what seems to be their nesting corner. A small sandpiper was creeping...

Has the wet summer altered any of our summer birds habits?

Migration, nesting, where they feed etc. The more experienced Birders with years of watching will probably have seen more change if there is any. Thanks

    Multi-coloured Warbler, or similar?

At Fordwich today i saw a small warbler like bird with a lot of colour on it, couldnt work out what it might be. The back half of its wings were slightly blueish grey(mainly grey) with the front parts a greenish brown colour. It had a white eye line which seemed to go most or all of the way...

The quote/poem used in your signiture?

How/Why did you choose the quote or poem that you decided on in your signitures. What do they mean to you? I chose this passage from The Compleat Angler because i know a few people who genuinely believe that their wealth sets them apart from the rest of us. And the money in their accounts is...

Just got back (12:10am) from driving around Eastry - Rowling - Northbourne with my brother and Neil looking for Owls and Badgers. Never saw a Badger all night, and had a slow start looking for the Owls. But as we were rolling down a slight hill, we heard Little Owls in a massive tree at the end...

I was at Oare marsh today, and while i was talking to a couple of chaps a pipit rested about 40 yards away. Now id seen two Meadow pipits already, but this one had 1 of the blokes thinking that it might be a Tree pipit. It had a very yellowy front, much different to the other 2. I asked if it...

I spent the day checking out our new country park which is just outside Deal a couple of miles from my house. The rear entrance is only a short cycle ride from my home and has a nice track to ride on. The park has a tarmac road running around it, for the use of serious riders and a bmx type...

    Weekend away

Spent a couple of days at a caravan park near Dunganess, Fri - mon, the weather was pretty lousy (again) and the count didnt go all that far. A trip to Port lymn zoo was really disapointing, with the only decent bird being a Goldcrest. I did see 3 types of sandpiper with some Oystercatchers 1 of...

    House keys found at Stodmarsh!!!

I doubt this will help but, someone has picked up a set of house keys at Stodmarsh nature reserve and left them on a hook on the toilet building in the main carpark. So if anyone was there today(or recently) and has lost a set, they may be yours. Bit of a long shot but you never know. Mick

    Good old roadworks!

I was 'made' to go to rare breeds centre today off the M20 j10. Only the junction was shut and spent 3 hours in a queue of traffic. It was well hot in the country and on the walks when we got there, but i did get to see a Treecreeper as we struggled over the climbing frames. Stopped off at...

    Saw my first Swallow today

It swooped over 2 fishing lakes i was struggling to catch in at Minster, Kent. It had a bit of a dip in the middle and flew round 12 - 15 times and was gone. Lets hope it finds its mates. On my way out of the complex, saw a pair of partridges too. Mick
