UK Spring gatherings of Hobbys. Moving north from Beds/Bucks/Cambs/Suffolk to Yorkshire?

10-15 years ago there were significant gatherings of Hobbys in May at several staging sites in the south where dozens of birds could be seen together hawking insects. This year I've visited Wilstone Reservoir, Linford GPs, Marston Vale, Grovebury Pit etc without seeing a single one. I was...

    Whiskered AND Little Tern? Thailand

AIUI, Eclipse is just for ducks post-breeding camouflaged moult to protect them while moulting primaries. Other birds would be in 'transitional' plumage when moulting from summer to winter and vice versa.

Whitethroat or Lesser Whitethroat - UK 3/5/17

Common. Would be unusual for Lesser to perch right out in the open like that. Learn the song, find a dense load of brambles with the rattle coming from it and be patient. I've never seen a Spring Lesser Whitethroat I haven't heard first.

Looking for some top quality binoculars - grateful for some advice.

Yes, your summary of the pros and cons of the 32mm vs 42mm objective is succinct and correct. If low light is not a big factor, the 32s have the edge. As people age, and especially if they are smaller to start with, lighter, smaller bins become more important.

    Eilat Israel Wader?

278 views and no one else has been confident enough on this? I can't make it anything other than a Little Stint, and other than the long winged appearance there is nothing wrong for Little Stint either. It just doesn't very obviously and immediately look like one.

    Mystery bunting - Turkey

It looks like Little Bunting but the bill looks wrong. Culmen is convex and should be straight or slightly concave in Little Bunting. The ear covert spot suggests Pine Bunting?
