I got info this morning that is believed the whales exited the Moray Firth overnight. Thank goodness.

Birding at Dalat on a budget

There are also local buses which are very cheap. I used one to go to Lang Bian Mtn and return. The bus goes (or at least used to) to and from just outside the entrance to the visitor centre.

You should contact Swarovski direct. Their customer service is normally very good.

Delia the same thing happened to me with W10 downloading when I didn't ask it to. Anyway I decided to go with it and all has been fine for me. TBH can't see that much difference to the W8.1 I was running.

    The Highlands and Islands Thread

It's all very easy throwing insults when you don't use your real name. All I would suggest is that you post your sightings on the Highland & Moray Bird facebook page (I'm sure John will let you on it) along with the rest of the regular birders in the area and see the locals reactions to some of...

    The Highlands and Islands Thread

Are we talking about the same Firth? I've been at Alturlie (not far from Milton) for 3 days running (from Sunday) and seen none of these Skuas. Large numbers of Twite???? When do you get more than a couple of birders watching anything much in our area unless it's an SOC trip or at Strathdearn...

    Richard Hammond's Jungle Quest Wednesday 9pm Sky1

Sorry, but I have a real downer on these so called celebs fronting programmes they have no background in and so add nothing to a programme. There are plenty of excellent and knowledgeable wildlife presenters and photographers who could front such a programme far better than him.

    Lahad Datu

I'm sure that if you contact KJC and tell them you want transport from LD they can arrange it, or at worst who to contact. So many people visit Danum before or after KJC that they will be well versed in what transport is available. I know they are sometimes a bit slow in communicating though...

    Moray birding

Try Roseisle, just along the coast for Cresties. Usually reliable. Also best to buy Gordon Hamlett's excellent book, for birding sites.

Great views of the Bittern this morning at Willington flying around the west side of the reserve and landing a number of times in the reed fringes on that side. Also Blackwit (possibly 2) and Greenshank present.

    Wyver Lane Nature Reserve (DWT)

Re my recent post re mowing the cow field at WGP. According to one of the DWT field guys today they didn't do the mowing, he believes it was the farmer who's cows are in the field. So it could be that DWT have actually done nowt or giving them the possible benefit of the doubt they asked the...

    Wyver Lane Nature Reserve (DWT)

Thanks Dan for sharing the feedback. Would have replied earlier but this is first opportunity. Let's see what happens over the next few months as certainly WGP needs a lot of work during the winter months (much more than in the past few years) to get it in any type of shape to keep the local...

    Wyver Lane Nature Reserve (DWT)

Have DWT been reading this thread? At WGP yesterday morning a tractor arrived and they started mowing the cow field, something they've been telling us they were going to do for ages (don't think it has ever been done before, or at least for some years). A lot of breath being baited Dave.

    Black Grouse Shot

See status etc here http://www.blackgrouse.info/about/conservation/uk.htm and shooting info here http://www.blackgrouse.info/forshooters/index.htm It does seem ridiculous that a Red List species does not have full protection, but I guess money talks.

Common Scoter at WGP along with 1 Barwit, 2 Blackwits, 1 Common Sand, 2 Snipe, 2 Kingfisher, and a minimum of 5 Yellow Wags. All there until at least 11.15.

    Wyver Lane Nature Reserve (DWT)

I agree with most of what as been said about DWT, but just to pick up Steve on a couple of points about WGP. The sheep and ponies are at the west side of the reserve (not south) on the old fly pit, which was once great in winter for Water Pipits and Jack Snipe. It's main attraction now seems to...

Back from a week or so in north Scotland. At WGP the LRP chick still survives and hope it will fly soon. The Oycs still have their 3 young, and the Redshank got off 2 broods, both seem to have moved over to the fisherman's side. Other breeding news is a Shoveller with 6 young, and a Tufty with...
