    questions for 100mm users

i have some questions for folks who currently use, or did in the past, a 100mm prismatic spotting scope. which one? which eyepieces? your comments on its performance? did you ever use it for astronomy, and if so, how was its performance? If you no longer use it, why not? thanks

    Vortex Viper 10x50 HD

Hi, I am familar with a couple Viper HD models. I am searching for information from someone who has actually used, or tried, the Vortex Viper HD 10x50 HD. In particular, their optical quality, exspecially CA control. Not interested in suggestions of alternatives.

    Retro Style

For awhile now my standard carry, absent a deluge in the forecast, or during the depth of winter, is the 8x SE, and on occasion the 10x SE. Over that time have come to enjoy the "retro" look of them. Any E,EII, SE folk out there feel the same?;)

Celestron Regal 65ED, late to the party

Just got one of these from Eagle Optics. I am very pleasantly surprised (even though i read Frank's magnum opus thread from 2010 before ordering). For the price it is a seriously fine piece of optics. The focus on mine is very nice, BTW. When I use a scope during the day, it had been usually an...

    A completed set.

I just completed my SE set with a 10x42 SE. Close focus for me is about 11 feet. The 16.4 foot spec on the close focus had me skittish for a couple years. But as is often the case, the focus was closer than spec with a binocular. I use the 8x for daytime, and the 12x for night sky. After...

    SE fantasy

Given the Nikon SE lovefest in the forum of late, i thought i would pose a question. Now, I know Nikon will not introduce new SE models. But, what other sizes would you like to see made available. My wish list: 7x25 SE. a mini/compact versin. 8x42 SE. The standard size. Would probably sell...

    C90 bargain

I recently picked up a Celestron C90 for $159.95 on Amazon. If one is not philosophically opposed to Maks, and you want/need high magnification for nature observation, i recommend. I am using it with one of my other eyepieces, a 25mm Plossl for 50x & 1 degree FOV. So far, excellent performance...

    The fair weather bird watcher.

This a.m. I took a stroll accompanied by a binocular i had not used for awhile, prompting the following thoughts. The majority of folks in my country who "watch birds" never would frequent this optics sub-forum, or BF itself. They are the folks who like to watch the birds at their feeders, the...

    10x42?

Do you use a 10x42 binocular as your only one, or as your "general purpose one"? If so why that one instead of others?

Vortex Talon 8x42 HD, informal user report

Vortex Talon 8x42 HD This is my user report on the Vortex 8x42 HD binocular. This binocular is probably exactly the same under the armor as the Eagle Optics 8x42 ED. The differences being cosmetic (color and brand identification.) This would make sense since ER, Vortex, and Atlas are all...

Informal Review of Vortex Viper 8x32 HD

This are my first Vortex product. A little about myself. My avocation is nature study. My hands are medium size. My nose is small and face is more towards flat, rather than simian. My other 8x32 size class binos are: Nikon 8x32 SE Leupold 8x32 Gold Ring HD Zeiss 8x30 BGAT*P* (aka: “classics)...

    Question about Viper 10x50 HD

I am looking for comments/comparisons on the level of CA in the Viper 10x50 HD. I am familiar with the 8x32 model of that line and like the level of CA control in it. Thanks

Eagle Optics Ranger ED 10x42 Binocular, user report

This is the beginning of my report on the Eagle Optics Ranger ED 10x42 Binocular, which i recently purchased. I will add to it after some time has passed. This binocular is probably exactly the same under the armor as the Vortex Talon Vortex Talon HD 10x42. This would make sense since ER...

    A change of grease?

I am aware this question does not make sense pocket-book-wise, but anyway.... I appreciate the optical quality of my pair of inexpensive Leupold BX-1 8x30 Yosemites. I have been wondering about the following. The focus on it makes a slight squish sound, and while smooth, has a slight feet in...

a brief note on the Audubon ED focus and cold

I have been putting a few of my porros in the freezer to check the effect of cold on the efficiency of the focus wheel. I just pulled my Audubon 8.5x ED (armored, about 9-10 years old) out of the freezer. Definitely sluggishness, but would be usable if necessary.
