    That depends a little on which taxonomy you want to use. As a platform the interface and data output by ebird is far better - in terms of sample size, granularity of data and much more, (notwithstanding the fact it is only for birds).

    Thanks for posting and doing so openly. I think a lot of the skepticism was down to you being totally off the radar. For example I was guiding 300+ days a year in Argentina at that point (and also In Venezuela) and some of the VZ birds especially seemed unlikely for a gringo wandering around on...

    Friend just sent me this from Poland. Having been out of the Western Palearctic so long i couldnt give him a 100% answer. Are the circled birds scaup among the tufties? Do young female tufties show this much white at the bill base? I thought they can but now I'm not sure.... Thanks!

    Somewhere there are instructions for building your own bucket mic. Would work well to collect the signal with the mic youre talking about as well as provide an easy way to protect from weather. i'll see if i can find them

Clingfilm round the mic capsule / parabola and then gauze over the top which is acoustically transparent but dissipates larger rain drops on impact.     I love my Victory SFs. In fact both my Swaros are sitting on the shelf now mostly. But what's with the terrible eyecup thread. Mine popped off and I can see no way of getting it back without breaking it. There is no thread like on my Swaro ELs. See pic. Any ideas really appreciated! thanks

    It's a Kelp. Although I can see why you went for olrogs as there is barely any white in the primaries (which is a feature for olrogs). Did you see it in flight? - olrog's shows a neat black subterminal band (can't see the tail in your pic). The bill morphology is much better for kelp though...
