    Error99 when using Nissin Flash

Err 99 is a generic error message. I have a 40D that is giving that error that I am guessing is tied to my shutter going bad. This is because I get two or three shots off and the shutter quits working. I have to power the camera off, take out the CF card and power it back on again. I am...

    Histogram on a 7D

The histogram is merely a tool to help properly expose the subject. I usually find an object that is in the same light that has neutral colors take a meter reading off of it and take a shot. If the histogram looks like a nice bell curve then the exposure should be correct. Take...

    Oregon Junco? Minnesota, USA

I see this variation in MN all the time. Looks like a female dark-eyed junco to me. I'd expect more of the pink/brown on the flanks for a pink-sided. Bill Schmoker has some excellent images of juncos and a link to a really good discussion on the species...

    Another Screech Owl

Cool! I found a Gray Phase that was calling and making low noises while at the entrance to his tree cavity that I think has a mate on eggs. I am hoping to get some flight shots of them when they starting feeding the youngsters.

    shooting a 300 2.8 along side a 'big' prime?

I own the Canon 600mm f/4 and the Canon 300mm f/2.8. When I am out and about I have the 600mm on the tripod and the 300mm on a strap hanging from my shoulder. I have never regretted the purchase of the 300mm.

Would it make sense to buy a flash?

I think there might be some confusion on the use of flash. Using a flash properly can make for some spectacular images that otherwise might have been deleted. Most photographers using flash and the better beemer use it as fill to make colors and textures pop. I use a Canon 580EX set to high...

Is this a Cackling Goose - Ontario

Jim Aluetian Cackling (leucopareia) is larger than Cackling (minima). minima is the smallest. We then agree this bird is not minima. After taking a second look I am not convinced any longer it is leucopareia based on comparing it to a bird I saw and photographed in California that is...

Is this a Cackling Goose - Ontario

Can someone tell me why this is not an Aluetian Cackling Goose? The bird is too small to be the larger Canada Goose. Look at the square head, and smaller beak. I took pictures of a similar bird next to a Canada Goose.

Dana I use the exact same setup. I set the flash to high speed syn in ettl mode with the zoom set to 50mm. Depending on how much fill you need you can start at -2 and adjust up or down as needed. I manually set the flash to the - numbers.
