    Oh the irony

Is it just me who thinks the British royal family calling for a halt to wildlife crime is a little ironic? The shooting of this Water Buffalo maybe legal, but the smug grin looks like the face of a man who enjoys killing to me, he must be so proud...

    Non birders bless 'em

Don't you just love the comments you get from non birders? Well today was a special day! We were sat in a hide at Carsington water in Derbyshire, when a couple came in. First, whisperings about what the Lapwings on the island were, Curlew was the surprise answer! But then it went rapidly...

    Dragonfly predation by Blackbird.

Up at my local patch a couple of days ago, I saw a Southern Hawker dragonfly. Stopping to watch it for a while I was amazed to see a Blackbird shoot out and pluck it from the air.:eek!: I could still hear the dragons wings whirring as the Blackbird flew into the trees with it's prey. Any one...

    Bullfinch call

Yesterday morning at Carsington water,Derbyshire,UK, I saw a Bullfinch fly through trees, nothing unusual about that you may say. What was unusual was the call I heard. It was nothing like the usual feeble whistle (sucking in of breath), but much more ringing and powerful (blowing out of...

    So are you lucky?

Following a thread by Joseph N about embarrassing birds you have not seen, it is clear that ,unless you are a twitcher,it is often just a case of geography as to which "good" birds you see. So which birds do you take for granted, that many people would love on their life list?

    Cromford Canal, Derbyshire

Following a recent(9 th Jan) failed trip to my local patch, Carsington Water, when I was fogged off, I decided to try a walk at lower level where visibility was better. I chose my village of Cromford, and decided to try the area around the church, which is well known by birders as a prime area...
