    Accipiter Hawk - Romania

Is this a juvenile Goshawk ? I am hinted to that by the fine barring on the underparts and the apparently strong hip (although I've been fooled before by female Sparrow). Thanks.

Two plovers for ID - Sri Lanka

Not the best pictures in the world, sorry. From what I can see, I'd say the first one is Lesser Sand Plover (lack of extensive white on forehead), while the second one looks like a Greater SP (longer thighs, white forehead).

    Funny heron - Sri Lanka

Can't decide on which heron: - long legs rule out Striated - white coverts (barely visible when wings are folded) point to Indian Pond. But... - no streaks on the chest, plus black cap that says Yellow (not Malayan, which has a stockier bill). I could use a little help, please :h?:

    Grey-breasted Prinia ? Sri Lanka, Feb 2019

I am hesitating between Grey-breasted and Ashy, since my experience with Prinias is very limited. I'd say the G-b would display less buff on the underparts, but it may well be a side effect of the warm morning light. Pictures taken near Udawalawe, Sri Lanka, February 8.

Professional guide - Southern area ?

I will be in Sri Lanka for two weeks, fist half of February, visiting various places (Ella, Horton, Udawalawe, Mirissa) in a family vacation. I'll spend as much time birding as I reasonably can, and I think I could use some assistance from a local bird guide. Particularly since I plan to take a...

Cyprus Trip Report - April 2018

I spent no more than nine hours in total at birdwatching over three days, with family vacation being the primary goal. Since time was scarce, I went for new species for me rather than putting up a long trip list. Birds in italics are new entries to my lifelist (should anybody care, beside myself...

    Ruppell's warbler ? - Cyprus

I'd say female Ruppell on whitish flanks and underparts, apparently curved culmen (might be an illusion due to the angle ?), light gray upperparts. However, I am puzzled by the extent of the spots, which spread down to the breast too - a good sign for female Cyprus. I could use some help. Thanks...

    Easter birding anyone ?

I will be in Cyprus for (Orthodox) Easter, willing to take a half day tour either on Sunday 8 or Monday 9. I will be based in Larnaca with my family (which is why half day is pretty much all I can afford), basically aiming for Akrotiri. Will have a rental car. If there is anybody out there...

    Which Flycatcher ? Thailand

The light is falling unevenly onto the bird and makes the rear part looks more vivid and bright. My wild guess is a female Niltava. Picture taken in Doi Inthanon NP, cca 500 m elevation, on December 7, 2016.

    Phylloscopus warblers - Northern Thailand

I am totally lost among the huge warbler diversity in Thailand. There are two distinct individuals in these pictures, but possibly of the same species (?). I would limit the „search range” toBuff-throated, Yellow-streaked, Radde's and Greenish. Pictures taken in Doi Inthanon NP, in a clearing...

    Two terns - Thailand

I think these are two different species, namely Black-naped (left picture) and Common (right). Can you confirm ? Location: off-shore Koh Samui, December 3.

    Raptor ID - Thailand

Please help me put an end to this headache: Oriental Honey Buzzard or Blyth's Hawk Eagle ? Or none ?... Taken in Koh Phangan, November 30.

Suspects for Chinese Egret - Thailand

Can you confirm my suspicion ? I am sorry for the poor quality of the photos, it is all I have, but I think they both show dark bill (which excludes Great in winter plumage) and feet (which excludes Little). Location: Koh Phangan

What female Sunbird ? - Thailand

My wild guess: Red-throated. Koh Phangan, November 29.

    Bird ID apps

Is anyone aware of any birding apps, based on dychotomous keys, that are applicable for Asia ? I browsed around and found some apps for North America, in some cases for Europe. But not for Asia. I am particularly interested in SE Asia (Indochina). Thanks.

    Madrid city-birding

I will be city-breaking in Madrid, October 31st to November 2nd. Can anyone please point me to a place where I can enjoy birding ? I checked some older threads here but they don't really treat this particular time of the year, so I gladly welcome any hint. ...and if there is someone who would...

    Help - mouse ID, Romania

Please help with an ID. The animal looks sunk in a deep sleep (hibernation ?). I am particularly puzzled by the furry tail. Pic taken today in a deciduous forest near Bucharest. Thanks.

Has anybody seen this variation in Little Egret ? I can hardly imagine it's anything else. Sorry for the 'documentation-type' quality of the picture.
