    immature male, yes.. Asian Brown would be my first pick too. I doubt it can be said though. Grey-streaked and Dark-sided Flycatcher (and other similar Thai species) may look very similar under circumstances. (Grahame help!) I'll kindly pass on the bulbul. cheers, G

    Nice looking Jay, I didn't realize a range of pale, white-faced Jays inhabit the southern part of Eurasian Jay range roughly from Morocco to Myanmar. Blue Rock is correct. Spotted Dove, the collar seems very typical (no experience with the species though) cheers, Gerben

    Not an expert but I would call it that in Japan. Typical white side of the head is not conclusive I believe, the sharp edge of the naked yellow skin is. Cheers, Gerben

    Leaf Warbler Identification - Lake Miyagase, Kanagawa, Japan

    Good luck (and good fun) with them all, these coming weeks you will be able to find all leaf warblers during migration I suspect, loudly singing....but then IDing them on sight alone is near impossible, except for Eastern Crowned of course.     Bar-headed Goose is a cross between a plane and birds more or less, it seems. Since it shows such off 'photos' it gets almost cute...but not quite. And weird in a dr frankenstein kinda way.... cheers, G

    Warbler (maybe Arctic Warbler) at Bukit Fraser / Malaysia 2th of March

    There is no way to distinguish between the closely related Japanese Leaf Warbler, Arctic Warbler and Kamchatka Leaf Warblers in the field without sound. All of them can be found (regularly or rarely) in this area, I would think. cheers, Gerben

    Wise words! It would be nice to get some people to look at your photo and vid that have more experience with both species.... Those are usually not Japan based birders as jp sprawk is uncommoner there than in more southerly countries I believe I would gladly have another look at the original...

    There appears to be a strong orangey colouring on the breast, that does not fit Goshawk in any plumage, I would imagine. btw: is the original video only a little under 3 MB? That is a bit small for current phones...I think. Maybe you can have a look at that and if the original file is bigger...

    I would not dare label it as something other than smaller accipiter spec. The only logical other contender is Japanese Sparrowhawk which is in general a lot rarer in Japan as a whole. It looks a bit bulky compared to what I think JP Shawk should look like. The dark head maybe fits JP better...
