Feeders drained every night - bats, I think

I can just seen next summer now, feeding hummers all day and the bats all night!! A 24/7 job!! 8-P:t: Do you know where the bats are staying during the daylight hours?

    Avian pox in hummingbird?

Have you noticed this bird around before? Do you suppose this bird was injured somehow? Hopefully it is not a case of avian pox.

    Our Hummers

Thanks, we do enjoy the view. We live (as you can see) close enough to the woods to encounter the odd - deer, fox, owls, bear, racoon and lately pheasants running through our blueberry fields and yard. Those windows are facing east and we have a similar view (thirteen feet of windows) facing...

    Our first migrant this year.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing the pics. :t: Wouldn't it be nice to know where they are born? I wonder if any of them are from our area in Nova Scotia. We go to Cuba yearly and when I see ruby throated there, I wonder, could some of them be ours?

Feeders drained every night - bats, I think

Wow, that is acutally pretty cool to me. I am sure if you have a bat problem not so cool, but we don't see 2 bats a year. I would have never guessed they would be attracted to a hummingbird feeder, the things ya learn.

Wow, interesting read. I would never have figured that out in a million years.

    Hummer ID?

I only have experience with ruby throated hummers. I would say, that bird is also a female. Males normally have a speck or two of brownish feathers on their throat or even a red feather or two in their first season. If they are completely clear of dark feathers or brownish modeling, then...

    Already Leaving?!

Sadly our hummingbirds are gone for this season. I haven't notice one for two days now. :flyaway:

    Female Ruby Throat

Wow, that sure is nice and clear!! :t:

    Ruby-throated

Add more feeders, away from the one/ones you already have. We have them on all sides of the house (attached to our windows), just too many sides or windows for one or two males to protect. If there is too much fighting, they leave and ya don't want that.

How to get hummingbirds out of the garage?

We have this problem occasionally and have discovered that our best solution is to use a fan rake, when they get tired, they will land on the rake. We then slowly lower the rake and slowly walk to the opening.......they do the rest. This might take several tries, but it has almost always...

When will the Hummingbirds Leave ???

Our males are completely gone now and our females are getting more scarce all the time. The latest I can recall seeing them is the second week of September. It is so sad when they vanish. :-C I miss all the antics, fights and the shear beauty they share with us.

    Our Hummers

We do see the odd fight (s), one will show up with feathers stuck to its beak or feathers stuck up on its back. I either read or someone mentioned to me, when the arguments start, put out another feeder or they will go somewhere else to feed. Hence so many feeders on our windows. We started...

    Hummer Help?

The "tube" window feeder sometimes gets air locked. You have to take the tube off the window and basically burp it. If the liquid is running freely out the holes, it is fine. I have watched birds land on the same type of feeders at our home and then leave immediately thinking it was empty...

    Our Hummers

Our birds are all ruby throated. I have never come across any other type this far north.

    Our Hummers

Well, there is the very odd time it happens, I have never found one hurt or laying on the ground etc. We need this type of feeder due to the high winds in our area....sometimes it is like living in a wind tunnel. I have tried a few different hanging feeders and they would empty themselves by...

    Our Hummers

I realize this is not very good, but it will give you an idea of the amount of birds we have. These are 6 out of 12 feeders we have on our windows in Springhill, Nova Scotia. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQnK_6dxDK8

    Just started feeding the hummingbirds

We had to cover the red thingy that hangs on the cord for the garage door opener. The hummingbirds kept coming in to investigate and then got stuck in the garage. We just wrapped the red thingy with white tape. When they get stuck in our garage (after they are there for awhile) and just a tad...

Inexpensive Feeders from Soy Sauce Bottles!

It looks like a pretty good idea. Our wind is so strong here, we can only use the feeders that stick on the windows or I would give them a try.
