    I assume saltholme has easier views of bearded tits? from the pics, things look rather distant at this reserve?

    QE2 + woodhorn patch

    Anyone want to join me, experimenting with taking bird vids in this area? Its slightly unique as it has a stock of semi tame birds inc whopper swan, tree sparrows moorhens etc for example... this bird was 10ft away from me. Camera was struggling to focus! Not really interested in photography...

    focus problem

    Bought a cheap bridge camera off ebay 28x fuji. results were ave.....occasionally good, but mostly i felt like I was fighting it all the time. the auto focus seems very ropey. IS this linked to depth of field ? I have to confess this bird was only 15ft away from me... steep learning curve...

    anywhere in the area that has had more than 5 present? would be great to see a large number together. i recall the curlew sand flood of 85, was 11+ in one spot on holy island

    alot of mud exposed on the wansbeck estuary atmo. between castle island and the wear. wish id had been there in sep now....for peak wader passage. anyone know why the river is so low?

    yes ;ogically i agree, they would be the ones who had bred up the tweed. However they looked too grey(the males) for goosanders.

    large number of sawbills, by the old bridge at berwick yesterday. I didnt have bins with me, but fair sure they were red breasted mergansers. approx 35 of them. Visible at high tide.

    heya, is there a peak month/week for this? am guessing early august? They roost close to the shore then head off to sea in the day to feed? I might be in yorkshire, about 10th augs, still time to see them ? Havent been to hornsea for years, is this all happening around a sewage outfall?

    bird in flight about 7 feet from me. large dunnock size, very dark. but TWO PARALEL white wing bars, whihc ran whole length of the wing. seen low down in dense vegetaion on uni campus. in jizz it didnt fit any common birds. this is in york england. I suspect a migrant, lot of wind damp...
