Bought a cheap bridge camera off ebay 28x fuji.
results were ave.....occasionally good, but mostly i felt like I was fighting it all the time. the auto focus seems very ropey.

IS this linked to depth of field ? I have to confess this bird was only 15ft away from me...

steep learning curve on all of this :)
 
Its a reasonable result. A panasonic fz80 does better but has different issues. Maybe there are tricks and workarounds specific to your camera.
