    Low Light Binoculars

Very good advise given here. But IMHO all the expensive 42 mm options have very good coating that make them bright but the objective is still at 42mm which I believe is inadequate for a true low light bin. At most they will be better by say 10-15 minutes than a lesser bin of the same size. For a...

Thanks!! My friend is currently shopping around in shops and he is unable to find these. Any info on shops selling these in Beijing or Shanghai is greatly appreciated. Regards

    Binoculars directly from china

I saw their web site and I have decided on the bw16 model that resembles the Zen Ray ed but am unable to find any Web site that sells it. Where can I buy this model?

    which mid priced 10x32s?

I think for slightly more than $500 you can easily get a Nikon LX-L 10X32. I own one and absolutely love it. The other bin I own is a Zen Ray 8X43. To my eyes in spite of the smaller exit pupils, the LX-Ls are easier on my eyes than the bigger Zen Rays. They are sharp edge to edge with only a...

    Binoculars directly from china

We all know that some of the best bang for you buck bins are now made in China and I too own one of those but purchased from USA. Now I have an option of ordering directly from China through someone travelling to that country. So can any one guide me to some of the better ones one can buy from...

Tripod and head for PF65 ii

I use a 501 HDV with a feisol 3301 with my 65eda. I believe the 501 is too much head for the 65 and the 701 will be ideal with the light weight feisol.

    Feisol Tripod

Sorry to bump this old thread but i wanted to highlight how good Feisol customer service is: I have a Feisol 3301 and a gitzo 5541. My 3301 was the earliest model and the main frame broke last year which needed a replacement. The new frame is much better with allen screws going in from the side...

PF 65Eda with pentax 8-24 SMC Zoom?

I have both and I have never used the zoom since getting the XW14. The zoom is sharp till about 25-30X but the fov is very narrow. Its also dimmer than the XW14. I also find the ER to be inadequate at mid zooms.

    65ED where to buy?

Got my 65 ED A II in my hands. Its a well made scope and really tiny compared to my 80 ED. Funnily, I don't find so much of a difference in weight as I found in size compared to the 80 ED. The focus knob and the EP locker are a bit stiff but I guess that because its brand new. Will try out with...

    65ED where to buy?

Yes I live in india but a friend who stays in NJ will be carrying it to India for me.

    65ED where to buy?

I picked a body only ED IIA from Adorama for about $479 odd plus NJ state tax. Still a lot cheaper than any of the big name online shops. I already have a straight 80ED for shore and grassland birding and it is brilliant with the XW14 and the Baader 17mm. I am going to do some extensive forest...

    tripod without centre column

I have a Feisol 3301 with a manfrotto 501 HD Manfrotto head for my Pentax 80 ED. This light weight tripod (It does not have a centre column) can easily manage this heavy combo and I never need to use my 5541LS even in difficult windy conditions. A Gitzo 3 series IMHO is an over kill for a...

Nikon SE porros: incidence of fungus

SE were on the top of my list when I was shopping around for a bin but seriously if you do a lot of birding in India and stay anywhere near the coast or rainy areas, they will get mold and fungus in them. All my porros have them including the 'water proof claimed' Clestron Ultima DX. Porros are...

Theron Saker 15-45x60mm ED spotter compared to the Nikon > 20-45x60mm Non ED Fieldsco

Thanks for ponting to this thread. So looks like I have to spend a lot more to get good ER and ED glass. I have to look out for a pentax 65 ED angled to use my existing EPs but I cant find it cheap anywhere. But there was also talk of using the Saker with fixed EPs. So has anyone used a fixed...

Theron Saker 15-45x60mm ED spotter compared to the Nikon > 20-45x60mm Non ED Fieldsco

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I just discovered this thread about the Theron Optics Saker 60 ED scope and I think an ED scope at a $260 price point is simply unbelievalble. Some of our regular posters, whose opinion I highly value and whose advice I have blindly taken in the past, have...

Eyepiece for Vixen Geoma ED 52 A

Thanks John. Yes I have dropped the idea of the Vixen Geoma after I found out that its not water proof which is a must have in India. The GS looks like a very good scope, but looks like its available only in UK and Europe. Opticron has no presence in the USA?

Eyepiece for Vixen Geoma ED 52 A

I own a Pentax straight PF80 ED and have been very happy with the baader 17mm and the XW14 EPs with this scope. But on a recent birding trip to north India, I was seriously handicapped by the lack of an angled spotter to see some really nice birds on tree tops. So I am looking to purchase a...

    Review: ZEN Prime HD

What about the glaring issue that was there for some users of the earlier generation Zen ED 8X43s? I hope that is no longer an issue after all these years.

Current stste of ZenRay glare control

I have the original 8X43 ED model and the crescent veiling is very much present all the time especially if the sun is anywhere over or behind me. But even then the 8X43 ED, even though I have lost an eye cup screw is my main birding bin thanks to a very good view. Just to give you an example of...

Using a Nikon EDG with Gitzo 3540LS

I have a Gitzo 5541LS and Feisol 3301 which I use for a Pentax PF80ED with a XW14 mounted on a 501 HDV. I can see some vibration when I use the light Feisol in moderate to heavy winds at higher magnifications. But there is no such problem when I use the big Gitzo. Still the 5541 is way over kill...

    QR Tripod/Head for a PF80ED-A?

I have a PF80ED on a Manfrotto 501 HDV on a feisol 3301 and a Gitzo 5541LS. Excellent with the 5541 with no shake or vibrations even in heavy winds and good with 3301.

Manfrotto 501HDV on Feisol 3301 legs question

Hi Steve, Sorry for a late reply. But I am not sure of what screws you are talking about. There is just 1 screw on the tripod on which the head is mounted. Other than this there is no other screw is available. Regards

    Need best large scope head.

I have a Fiesol 3301 and a Manfrotto HDV501 for a Pentax PF80ED and the whole set up is rock solid with smooth pans and tilts. Definitely better than the ball head on the 3301 combo I used earlier. The 501HDV is slightly on the heavier side but the scope movements are silky smooth now but I...
