    Upcher`s Warbler or Olive-tree Warbler

First clues are the choice of perching place (on top of a bush and not on leafy branch), leggy appearance, brownish colour and not so strong bill. Finer details : rather rounded tail, primary projection about 2/3 of tertials length, long middle tertial with its tip reaching close the longest...

    Harrier SW France 28/09

There are currently 9 primaries visible: P1 —> P9 . P10 is missing. P8 almost grown. P9 just starting to grow. A light trailing edge to the inner hand is normal for adult female Hen harrier, which this bird is ☺️.

    Fort Portal Uganda July

Well I was about to suggest Swamp flycatcher (it’s definitely a juvenile flycatcher) but the bird looked a bit too pale for my liking. But if it was in swamp, I guess that the right choice.

    Harrier question - France

Yes Jan, the biggest issue with the hybrid theory is the wing formula, indeed there is no indication of an emargination on P6. On some hybrids the 5th finger may be quite reduced and barely noticeable while the bird is flapping, see for instance the attached adult male hybrid from Belgium. But...

Q E Nat. Park Uganda July

Most likely a juvenile Palm-nut vulture in my view.

    Harrier question - France

Thanks Jan. Yes Ola’s bird is subtle too but there does to be a slight indication of an emargination on P6 as this feather looks quite pointed even though it doesn’t protrude from the trailing edge. Also the flight feathers pattern - primaries and secondaries - is just impossible for a pure...

    Harrier question - France

Thanks Jalid. This is quite close indeed, although the middle black bar is slightly thinner and more sharply defined on the French bird… I think.

    Harrier question - France

They do show some similarities to the French bird but their secondary pattern is still within the expected variation of Pallid. Note how these bars, especially the proximal one, fade away as they reach the inner secondaries. It’s not very unusual for 1cy Pallid to have a distinct pale bar across...
