    Turnstone ?- Padstow, Cornwall - UK

    Hi all Can you confirm if this is a Turnstone? much darker colouring on the head than I can see in the books, but the beak doesnt look right for a Redshank either and these are only 2 I cn see with red legs. Photo taken end September in Padstow thanks in advance

    Corn bunting confirmation?

    We spotted this one on a fence last week as we were walking along the beach in South Uist. We identified as a Corn Bunting but also saw similarity for the Sky Larks - can someone confirm for us if this is a Corn Bunting?

    House Sparrows Avoiding Feeder

    Sparrows here absoultey love the fat balls- even with seeds out too they will battle it out with the Starlings for the fat balls.     Dunnock...on a feeder?

    I have a single Dunnock who comes in under cover with the Sparrows - doest stay long and hoovers up any seeds knocked on the ground from the Sparrows on the feeders.

    identifying birds or not

    I went on the RSPB website and they offer a free booklet on garden birds (posted within 2 days) - a few pages of the more regular visitors and some information on feeding / attracting etc. Excellant starting point whilst you decide which book you want to buy.

    Conwy RSPb Sunday 9th Aug

    Had a fabulous day at Conwy RSPB on Sunday - have to say that the hide volunteers are fabulous - its sometimes a bit daunting when you arent too sure what you are looking at (novice watcher) and wanting to ask - but the guys there are great at taking time out to help. My list for the day...

    Birds take the weekend off too

    I am sure you are right about weekends :) our bird feeders never seem as busy at weekends as they do in the week. Lucky you with a resident roe deer. Lucky enugh to be in your neck of the woods two wees ago and saw a few deer.

    Tree Sparrow in North Wales?

    Checking my RSPB guide I see that Tree Sparrows are not found in Wales. However I am 99% sure I just saw one with some House Sparrows in our garden. The bird had the distinctive brown ruffled head cap. Is anyone else aware of sightings of Tree Sparrows in this area? many thanks

    Blue Tit

    I tried the fatballs to tempt some Blue tits in - unfortunately it cased a starling invasion :) One fat ball hung out and we have 5-8 Starling all arriving with in minues and fighting over who gets a turn on it next. Moainly juvenilles I think but even before that the adults in our garden would...

    Infrequent garden visitors

    I too some very regular visitors: We have a large number of both Sparrows and Starlings can devour the complete bird feeding station in a day. We also have a Magpie who pops in daily - and being by the sea we have the regular Herring Gulls nesting on the roofs. Pigeons and a couple of Collarded...

    baffling bird - SW England. UK

    I am a newbie to identification - but wanted to hazzard a guess at a young Starling? ( the cream colour around the eyes and the black beak are very similar descriptions to the young starlings we have in our garden. Hopefully someone more informed than me will give you a definitive answer :)

    Is this an Artic Skua - Orkney Jul 09

    Hi all This is a photo I just came across from our recent trip to Orkney. We identified this bird as an Artic Skua - could you let us know if we are right? Being new to this its really helpful to get some of these verified by the experts amongst you thanks in advance
