    Visiting Dublin Late March: Query

I am traveling (from the US) to Dublin last week of March 2022 for a conference, and have several days (but no car) to do some birding around the city and possibly further afield by public transport. I am considering bringing tripod and scope for places like North Bull and Howth or Poolbeg and...

    Kim Jong Un's Bins

What might they be? They look like fixed-focus boy scout binoculars. Or the latest in stealth North Korean optics. See attached.

    TSN 554 Fluorite?

In a thread on the binoculars forum covering the 2016 Photokina someone mentioned "the new TSN 554 fluorite." There is only mention of the compact TSN 501 on the Kowa Prominar Facebook announcements. Anyone know anything? A very high quality travel scope would be welcome. On an unrelated...

    ZRS 8x32 HD specs?

Does anyone have any inside or published information I haven't seen on the specs for the upcoming 8x32? Information, that is, and not speculation. Is there a release date? Apologies if I missed this somewhere on the forums. thanks, David

    Adjusting Hinge Tension on SEs

My newish 8x32SEs have rather light hinge tension, and they came this way. So light that simply tugging on my harness straps often dislodges the IPD. Clearly the solution is to tighten the hinge, but I'm unwilling to let them go back to Nikon (2-3 weeks there and back) because they are my main...

Acuter Fixed EPs for Celestron Ultima

This topic has been discussed before, and only the Baader zoom has surfaced as an option that fits the Ultima line. Apparently, though, Synta does make some fixed EPs, marketed in the UK under the Acuter brand, that fit the Acuter/Celestron outer threads...

Is Holger Merlitz writing a book on binoculars?

He seems to be. My German is beyond rusty, but this appears to be an outline of his book project: http://www.holgermerlitz.de/inhaltsverzeichnis.html Any chance there will be an English version, Holger? At what stage is the writing? David

    ED2 7x36 in cold weather

I've been documenting my woes with cold weather focusing over in the Leupold forum: in short, I really like my Yosemite 6x30s for mixed habitat birding, but as the weather has turned sharply colder, I find I virtually cannot refocus them below 10F. We talk mostly about optics here, but I've...

    Yosemite Cold-Weather Focusing

I got Yosemite 6x30s this past summer as a reasonably serious starter binocular, and I've been very impressed, especially in the woods, in low light, and because of their general friendliness (especially the excellent friction eyecups). An anecdote: a birder swapped her EL 8x30s for them...

Atlas Sky Kings and Radians are in

For my first post on BF (after reading everything for 8 months), I’ll simply note that the remaining Atlas binos are in at EO: I’ll leave it to the regulars to dissect the details, but of note is that the Sky Kings feature dialectric coatings. David Swain
