Compact Camera Suggestions? Upgrading from Canon PowerShot SX720 HS

I am still a Canon user (now mirrorless) but have also had Bridge cameras as a portable alternative. I had the SX50 which was frustrating and bought a secondhand RX10 about 3 years ago. It really is worth the money. Rob

    Bewick's Swans in Scotland

We haven't had any winter in Fife for some years. I remember a party at Ballo reservoir some years ago and a neck-collared bird around 2006 near the Perth and Kinross border. They were occsional with the whooper flock on the Eden but not in recent times. Rob

    South Island Kokako......?

Not necessarily optimistic, but a report worth pursuing - unlike the NZ Falcon... Rob

    South Island Kokako......?

Indeed, but the Birdguides article refers to a totally different report mentioned on their FB page which sounds much more promising. Rob

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

No I haven't. I should probably do so sometime, although I may sell the R7 before I get round to it... Ergonomically I found the lack of a third dial on the R7 a pain. Rob

    Pakistan for Long-billed Bush-Warbler, June 2023

Interesting report. Back in 1997 on a trekking/climbing trip I found a long-billed bush warbler in the Hushe valley to the east of Skardu. The habitat it was in sounds identical, suggesting it may be more widespread but obviously hugely under reported. Rob

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

After going through a Scottish winter with the R7 (and EF100-400 MkII) I got an R5 and RF100-500 which I love. I haven't used the R7 since. Rob

    Top 5 of 2023

A mixed year. I'll pick 5(ish) in chronological order. I'll start with 3 birds that have already featured in this thread: the 3 alpine swifts near Dunbar in March. Daniel and I crossed the Forth to enjoy cracking views as they sped overhead - shame the light wasn't better. My mother fell and...
