Identifying a spare part for Swarovski (Manfrotto) tripod 1

My Swarovski tripod 1 suffered some serious damage during my recent trip - contrary to my usual practice, I did not take it as hand luggage onto the plane and the luggage handlers somehow managed to toss my bag around so hard that part of the tripod broke. Unfortunately, I'm really not into...

    Two wheatears from Armenia

I need some help with these two wheatears, photographed in Armenia in early September. I think the first one might be a female Finsch's - unfortunately I was preoccupied by digiscoping the bird and didn't note the tail pattern. Photos of the second bird are slightly more awful - I believe it's...

    Escaped waterfowl, Slovenia

I need some help with identifying this fence-hopping duck - unfortunately it's not one of the usual escapees (at least as far Slovenia is concerned).

    Istanbul: 2nd - 6th Sept

After scouring various sites for reports, I now have quite a clear picture of where I should be going - namely: Büyük Çamlıca (other spots are out of the question, because I'll be relying on public transport/taxis) for raptor migration and the parks for passerines. As it is not going to be a...

    Warbler ID, Slovenia

I was sent this picture by a friend. Unfortunately, I don't have any additional details ... What are your thoughts?

Lanzarote in early May - RFI

I'll be on a school trip to the Canary Islands between April 27th and May 4th. Most birding during the trip will probably be limited to sporadic out-of-the-bus sightings and I don't expect to see anything apart from the commoner species (Berthelot's and the Chiffchaff). On May 2nd we're...

    In public transport I trust!

I´m currently on vacation in Denmark, the museums of Copenhagen are old news for me, so I am reduced to birding (how (un)fortunate!). Yesterday, while browsing the Netfugl site I came across a locality called Gilleleje havn with some tempting birds. I was determined to set sail there and after...

What do you suggest for a two day trip in Denmark now?

I'm going to Copenhagen tomorrow and am quite familiar with the nearby sites such as Vestamager and Kongelunden, as well as Olsemagle Revle. My mother is working for a Danish company and she has decided to take next Thursday and Friday off. That's a chance for a trip further afield. So what do...

    Nordkapp, end June

Our school is organising an excursion to Nordkapp in the time mentioned above. I'm not sure I'll go at all, but I'm still curious about the birds. As this is a school excursion the only possibility of birding is keeping an eye open for roadside birds and anything I can see on the cape itself...

    4 lifers and more!!

I decided to go to Isola della Cona (I. d. C.) in Italy yesterday. It's conveniently close to Slovenia, only an hour and a half away from home. The weather was a bit unstable at home and I nervously kept checking the weather situation in Trst (Triest)(the nearest town to I. d. C. featured in...

    Age this gull!

I took these photos while on vacation in Monterey, CA. I've IDed as a Heermann's Gull, but I'm unsure of its age. Please help. PS: I've written a report on this trip, there are also some pics, read it here

    Loon/Diver ID please (June, California)

I took this photo in San Francisco. I would have called this a juvenile Red-throated straightforwardly, if I were in Europe, but I don't really know what Pacific Loons look like in non-breeding plumage. I would like some more opinion on this. Thank you very much!

    An easy quiz

To cool down a bit here's a pic taken in winter. It isn't hard at all.

California (Bay area, Yosemite, Monterey, San Diego) 29th May to 13th June

As some of you may know I spent the last two weeks on holidays in California. It was a family holiday but I (of course) managed to squeeze in some birding as well. You can expect a full trip report as soon as I get over my jet lag. ;)

Birding in the San Francisco area

Me and my family are visiting SF in the first week of June. I've read about Point Reyes and heard about an island with a seabird colony (forgot the name). Could someone recommend any other locations or provide additional info on the two I named. I'm especially interested in wetlands/lakes and...

    Rosy-billed pochard?

I think this is a Rosy-billed pochard x sth hybrid. Any opinions? It probably isn't pure because of the bill pattern and undertail colour.

    SloQuiz

I know the idea isn't particularly innovative but I suppose it won't do any harm if I add my version of Fin and Rom quiz. Here goes, two easy Slovene names, the others are translated. 1 Temminckov prodnik 2 Siva bulverica 3 Wood owl 4 Willow blacksmith 5 Drinker (archaic, you'll probably need a...

    Llobregat delta: when and how?

Me and my family are visiting Barcelona at the end of the month. Is this a good time for visiting the delta? Furthermore I would like to enquire whether it's possible to reach it via public transport and if any guides can be hired there. Thank you in advance for your answers and suggestions.
