Just Bewick's Swans? - Boyton, Suffolk

There are a pair of ornamental Trumpeters on the entrance lake of Southview holiday park in Skegness. I guess there must be a few captive birds in the UK.

    Comic Tern, Cornwall, 19th January

http://ibc.lynxeds.com/photo/antarctic-tern-sterna-vittata/adult-flight I posted this link earlier of an Antarctic in flight. This shows a dark tip and is quite pale on the underparts and was taken in South Georgia. I'm with Andy - not sure you could completely rule this out, outlandish as it...

Hi, The attached pic was taken by my 11 year old daughter last week at Seahouses Northumbs. I haven't seen teh bird - she was on a trip with her mum. It's an Eider with a striking Orangey-yellow bill. Maybe a slight hint of sails but nothing definite. I was wondering what opinions are...

    Madeira - May 2010

Madeira Pelagic Hi Mark, I was on the pelagic with Bob Flood and Paul Willoughby - assume one of these is your fiend? There is lot's more footage (stills and video) of the Swinhoe's that is much better than that published by Windbirds to date. I expect you'll see some of it soon. Amazing...

Hi, Common both where I live in Kingston-upon-Thames and in Dartford where I work. They do however, become rarer the closer you get to Central London. Cheers.

    Willow Tits

They're still fairly numerous in suitable habitat in the Trent Valley. Wet carr woodlands at sites such as Attenbourough are still reliable for the species. However, in SE England I have only seen 1 bird in the last 8 years and that was at Clackett Lane last week. Do you need any info on the...

    Red-backed Shrike Flamborough - kobylini?

http://www.davehutton.fotopic.net/p45678218.html Guys, There has been a little debate amongst a few people who saw the Flamborough Red-backed Shrike last week about it's racial identity. The bird appeared to show features consistent with ssp kobylini - paler brown back, grey of head bleeding...

    DNA Barcoding

Does anybody know the origin of the oft quoted figure of 2.5% divergance to define a 'good' species. This seems the most arbitary definition of all.

    DNA Barcoding

This deserves discussion...... Multiple 'Winter' Wren species I can accept as well as Arctic and Common Redpolls being lumped. Not sure about the Gulls though and how can Cinnamon and Blue Winged Teals be 100% similar? There must be something in the DNA somewhere that results in their...

Willow Tits going down the pan

Willow Tits can be found in Notts around mature gravel pits etc. They seem to prefer waterside 'scrub' ie. where Willow, Alder and Birch predominate. Agree that Marsh prefer decidous woodland.
