Do Goldfinches really like Sunflower seed?

Hi guys. I was wandering do Goldfinches like black sunflower seed as well as the hearts? The Sunflower hearts are making a bit too much of a mess and are quite expensive so wanted to go with seeds but unsure if Goldfinches can eat them and break into the shells. Does anyone know at all?

What time to put food out, morning or night?

Hey ya'll. I was just curious about when you guys put your seed out for the non feeder birds. I'm talking loose seed. I use to put some out on the table at night ready for the morning. It's well sheltered from any rains or rats etc, though i don't believe many of them are here. But I haven't...

    Male Chaffinch Skittish??

Has anyone noticed if the Male Chaffinch can be quite nervy? Our male is a bit that way. He sometimes seems nervous about going for food on the bird table, though he does this mostly, but more especially the Sunflower Feeders. Sometimes he goes on them fine and stays there for a while, but other...

    Gardman or RSPB?

I was wandering what is the better quality of bird food out of RSPB and Gardman if anyone knows? I've ben using Gardman for a while and had no complaints, but the RSPB is a little more expensive so I was just wandering if it was worth getting that instead of Gardman, or is there not much in it...

    What's your feeding station like?

I've seen a few suggestions made by people to possible have a thread about our current feeding stations in our Garden's. I think that is a great idea which can also give ideas for others who are just thinking of creating a bird station. I didn't see a current thread on this subject but if there...

    Advice on Shrubs for Birds

Hey guys. We are looking to get a couple of new shrubs for the Garden, for privacy and idealy something liked by the birds and insects. We have a space at the top left hand corner of the garden which we were thinking of putting a Red Robin, as the red and green leaves may look quite decrotive...

    Birds seem too territorial

I'm a little bit concerned that the birds that have made our garden a part of their territory are scaring other spiecies off. We have a pair of blackbirds who keep on scaring off the Song Thrush and Robin and a pair of Blue Tits that seems to scare other smaller birds like the Long Tail Tits and...
