Owl - Pembrokeshire, night vision, fleeting

Very hard to say based on the video but going on the setting I'd lean towards Tawny. Head looks a little small for a barn owl too but that's purely an impression.

Odd duck, Filey Dams, Yorkshire UK

I've only ever seen two in the UK but went to Iceland last September and they were everywhere - beautiful birds. There seems to be a bit of an influx down the east coast of the UK this winter.

    Or even a long-tailed duck :)

Spotted very large perched bird of prey in County Durham, UK

There are a few raptor collections in that area (including large eagles) - I'm sure a few years ago a dog walker came across a Steller's Sea Eagle perched on a fence not a million miles from there. (edit... Gateshead : Dog walker meets bird of prey) Most likely a buzzard as most have said but I...

A distant NELondon Accipiter this morning.

A distant NELondon Accipiter this morning.

As mentioned previously Ken's camera supports NFC transfer of images to mobile phone... no reason the original photos can't be posted "in the field" (other than to wind people up).

Is this possibly a snowy owl ?

I have the utmost respect for your analytical and objective approach to ID so I must be living on another planet or misunderstood this entirely... not sure how a predominantly pale bird can possibly be a raven barring extreme leucism or albinism. While I think there is 0% chance of it being a...

    Crow with hawk-like markings?

I'm not making an ID in any way shape or form but is that bill not usual for a crow? Seems strangely long and thin and slightly curved for a "crow" of any form - especially in the last frame that the video lands on. NB I realise that the crow has something (worm?) in its bill which may...

Tawny Eagle Shingwedzi Camp South Africa Oct 15

Looks OK for Tawny for me - gape extends to the centre of the eye and nostril is elongated oval rather than round. I wouldn't take my word for it though - hopefully some African specialists will comment soon.

    Possible Scopoli’s Shearwaters Fuerteventura?

If you have a modern-ish phone you should be able to transfer images to it via NFC without any extra kit, judging by the NFC logo on the screen (and it being a Sony)

Bird of prey, Burgas (Bulgaria), last weekend

Interesting pics but it is the angle of the wing behind the open bill that makes it look odd. Confused the hell out of me at first but definitely a bog standard marsh harrier from the first pic and from then on you can see there is an illusion at play in the final pic. I opened the last pic...

Bird's nest - Colorado front range

Not according to this. Like I say I'm not trying to pick a fight - just pointing out what the rules say.

Bird's nest - Colorado front range

I'm not trying to start an argument but note that photos of birds nests are not permitted on this forum. Links to photos of nests are OK apparently - not sure I understand why.

    Hoopoe or Hoax

I guess the other thing that is odd with the photo is the fact that the hoopoe is perched on a chair. I don't think I've ever seen a hoopoe perch on anything other than the ground!

    Hoopoe or Hoax

Totally agree - overprocessing (whether intentional post-processing or side effect of camera software) where the algorithm tries to make sense of what it sees and creates missing pixels that make sense to it. I have seen exactly that with Topaz AI tools

    Is this a Lesser Kestrel?

I had a similar dilemma when I stayed in Perpignan - I was adamant it was South-East coast but my girlfriend insisted it was the South West!

    Kookaburra in Yorkshire

Unless I've missed it I haven't seen whereabouts in Yorkshire we are talking here and its a big old county, but I know of at least one falconry centre that keeps kookaburra near Thirsk and I'm sure there will be plenty more.

    Hen Harrier? in the UK

There are a million things wrong with it for a hen harrier, not least perching on a sea cliff digesting a razorbill! It is definitely a large falcon with a lot of gyrfalcon genes in it if not a pure gyrfalcon. Wild birds do show up from time to time but away from the highlands and islands the...

    Birding around Perpignan

Hello all - very short notice but I am staying in Perpignan next week (from 23/04) and would be interested to know of any good locations in the area. It is a family holiday with non-birders so chances will be limited but I hope to drive to Andorra for a day at some point during the week.

    bird of prey. Suffolk

Yes as Pyrtle comments above the bluish cast is just the shadow of the wing falling on the head and giving a different quality of light. Nice photos!
