Kites Does anyone have any counts of Kite roosts from around the county? I was surprised to count 12 a couple of miles West of Norwich today coming to roost. Be interested to know how many are roughly in county. -

Our Turtle Doves do indeed migrate through the Western Fly-way I believe and are generally not shot at during Spring migration. The Spanish and French are far from innocent however and large numbers are shot each Autumn. It is quite easy to find Anglo-Hispanic companies that will gladly offer... -

Red kites NN Has anyone noticed a lack of Red Kites in the NN area? Last year it was very easy to see at least 4 birds around Edgefield tip with higher numbers being reported. A post on birdingworld shows a red kite which appears to be missing several feathers + in a similar stage of "moult"... -

Hickling area on Sat: 700+ teal, 2 pintail, c35 ruff, 3 blackwits, 1 juv little stint, 1 juv curlew sand, 1 common sand, 2 greenshank, c70 lapwing, 1 GWE, 4+ Grey Heron, Bittern, c25 Dunlin, adult hobby, kestrel + female Peregrine terrorising swim coots. Water rail + kingfisher by boat landing... -

Incredible views of 2 common crane on Swim coots at Hickling today along with the Great Egret. Other birds of note through the day included Hobby and on the wader front 2 greenshank, 2 snipe, c10 dunlin, 1 turnstone and 1 Knot. The most interesting sighting however was of a juv. marsh... -
