    Twitchers! Are any of you purely and simply "listers"?

    I cringe when birding is described as being a hobby. If you are a hardcore birder, it's hardly a hobby. Who cares if people just want to tick off species on a list. If that makes them happy, I would go out of my way to help them find something.

    Drive 700 miles to the Hooded Crane, then back for the Skua on Thursday, fly to Canada for the Smew at Whitby, then to Arizona for Nuttings on Saturday. Wow. What a way to finish the year.

    So far it's been a very mild winter in Ontario with 200 species seen in the first 22 days. I had Snow Buntings, Pine Siskins and White-winged Crossbill today but dipped on White-fronted Goose and Barred Owl. Birds seen in Ontario have been Bobolink, Black-throated Green, Black- throated Gray...

    Yes, you are right, there is no Streaked-back. There is a Black-vented Oriole in Texas. At one point I thought that he said he was going to stay in the south and chase birds from there.
