Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Got out yesterday for the first time in a quite a while. Kingfisher at the lower weir & again near the sailing club. Buzzard in the trees near the underpass then a pair of Green Woodpecker either side of the river at Bordesley. Egret passed the five tunnels. On the way back to Ipsley Pool saw...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Had a spare hour this afternoon so popped down to Ipsley pool for a peep. Lots of Kingfisher activity. Got to watch a pair pursue each other up & down about 20 metres of river. They perched often not seeming to mind my presence enabling me to get a few decent shots as well as a short video of...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Great shots Neil. This week I found myself at the River Otter in Budleigh Salterton. Finally managed to grab a few shots of a Little Egret although not of your quality unfortunately. They have Beavers down there, didn't get to see any but saw tracks, gnawed trees & their lodge. Also checked out...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Went on Thursday Dave & saw Egrets down by HoĊµard Road & again by the bottom of the weir. Still couldn't get decent pictures! Kingfishers have paired up by Isley pool already. Saw another Kingy up by the totem pole. Need to check Ipsley Alders out soon, not been for close on a year now.

Nice one, I will have to keep my eyes peeled to try and spot some of those. Thanks CJ

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Good Morning's Watching Went out a few weeks ago and found absolutely nothing interesting. Got out 20 minutes before sunrise this morning, parked at Ipsley Pool. Walked down towards Howard Road, back up the otherside to Pikes Pool then on to the Lake, passed the Sailing Club then up to the Five...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Thanks, I never knew that about their feet Zomerset. Went to have a look early this morning at Ipsley Pool but no Kingys about. Maybe the chicks chased the adults off the river & on to the pool? Anyway they were not there today and unusually they were not on their regular stretch of the river. I...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Kingfishers & Hornets Nest Watched the Kingfishers again today, I am sure that this pair photographed on Ipsley Pool are from the second brood. There are both a male & female present & I have seen them flit between the pool & river being chased by at least another kingfisher (parent?). It will...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Got out nice & early this morning, down to Ipsley Pool for 6am. Kingfishers on the river in usual spots. Also a pair on the pool which I have not seen before. Fluffed what would have been a superb shot where one of them perched on a small branch protruding from the water. Watched them for a good...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Got out Sunday round the Ipsley Pool section of the Arrow before it started to rain thus cutting my trip short. Kingfisher in usual spots. Also had one fly over the river & into Pilkington car park, maybe there is a small pond there. Pair of Grey Wagtails down by Howard Road & several...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Today was the first day I have been out since May due to work commitments. Good to get out & about! Pair of Kingfishers chasing each other down the Arrow near Howard Road. Got a good shot of a Grey Wagtail & one of a male Bullfinch with a juvenile. Computer is broke so can't share. Found a...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Help identifying three birds Sunday was my first proper day out in a while due to work commitments & bad weather. Within five minutes of getting out of the car I saw both GSWP & GWP on the same tree. Also saw a small woodpecker that I am hoping is the LSWP. It has it's head poking out of the...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

More Kingys but no LSWP Spent ages looking for the LSWP round Pikes Pool twice today with no reward. That one is on my bird bucket-list! Took the old man out to show him some Kingys & fortunately they were not shy. Managed to catch the male on camera near Howards Road, south of Ipsley Pool. Saw...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Kingfishers & Woodpeckers Hi Neil, local idiots have already started their run of destruction. On Friday there were several dead fire sites near Ipsley Pool. Very sad, if they stopped to look around they might find something interesting rather than just ruining everything they see. Had a bit of...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

More Kingfishers than you could shake a stick at! Cheers Dave, hopefully our paths will cross one morning! Today I decided to try & add the Green Woodpecker to my growing photo collection. I started at my now usual spot & where I saw the Great Spotted Woodpecker last Sunday. He was present...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Thanks Zomerset. I have never heard the Kingy call before, today was the first time. If I had a better camera I could have got some cracking air shots as when she flew back towards me. I could see her coming from about 50m away on the straight, then she zipped round the bend. I must have walked...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Early morning on the Arrow Valley Started at Ipsley Pool, walked back towards Studley along the Arrow - no sign of the Kingfisher, saw a pair of Bullfinch on my way up the other side of the River. Heading towards the Lake there were a pair of Grey Wagtail near the river at Pykes Pool, lots of...

Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch)

Decent finds ths morning Parked at Ipsley Pool early this morning & walked up, round Arrow Valley Lake & back. Some good spots: caught my first Kingfisher on camera near Ipsley Pool & saw it twice more as I made my way back passed the car park. Been looking along here for a while now without...
