Cheers Stu. Guess based on the increased dof from the smaller sensor - both good shots!

Interesting comparison. I am guessing the shot of the bird facing to the right was taken with the SX50?

Thanks Mick, it's version 12 that I am playing with at the moment, and at only £25 from Amazon now I reckon that will be the way forward. My laptop is a little slow but does get there in the end - and it's not as though I am hoping to make Hollywood Blockbusters! cheers Paul

Hi Mick, have you any suggestions on video editing software? I have found Windows Movie Maker nice and easy but a limited package, then downloaded a trial of Sony Movie Studio which appears a lot more capable. Your mention of synching audio is what grabbed my attention as I plan on getting a...

This is a link to a video I shot and edited yesterday with my SX50. It is only loosely related to birds in that it shows a mechanised reed cutter being used to cut rides in a local reed bed by the Herts & Middx WT. They did flush snipe and woodcock and once they had cut through the first ride a...

That's a fascinating read Mike. Gonna have to dig out my old photos and see if I can match it up with your panoramic view. Can't say that I remember the small lakes near the ferry port - is the small, open shopping centre still there? I was often in and out of the 7/11 with friends. cheers for...

I lived in Discovery Bay for 6 months in early '93 and was into booze and partying - regret the wasted opportunity now but I've learned a lot since then. I love the shots and am grateful to see some of what I missed Cheers Paul

Cracking shots Punta - still a must see bird for me :-C

    Canon SX50 Specs

I had the zoom fully extended when I saved the settings one day and it took me a couple of days of use to work out what I had done - useful to know that you can set it to open to maximum though!

A couple of shots of birds at last, both shot in jpeg using the tc at 2x:

Good shots Josh, wish I could see an osprey that close. I've not managed to get any birds in flight yet though I nearly had a kestrel - she swooped just as the AF was locking!

I would guess that the answer is simply that the teleconverter is not available when using the RAW - the jpeg that is saved is literally just a processed copy of that RAW file.

    Canon SX50 Specs

Teleconverter is not available with RAW so set to jpeg. Set camera to C1 or 2, find set shortcut key in menu and set to teleconverter, then you need to save settings at end of menu Paul

I would be very interested to see samples David as I have been shooting in RAW and hadn't thought to try using the teleconverter on jpeg instead. My biggest problem remains shaky hands closely followed by constantly forgetting my reading glasses which means I can't see the bloomin' screen to...

Love the shots PP, especially the yellowhammer and the sedge (?) warbler. Must have another go at birds with mine, just a little hooked on macro at the mo!

    Canon SX50 Specs

I have answered my own question. The main dial has to be rotated to movie mode and then the exposure can be in/decreased using the EV control. I can't see anyway of setting the exposure fully but that is something. Also discovered the settings for slow-motion recording become available too. I...

Good start Robert, I particularly like that Hellebore. Vignetteing has caught me out a fair few times too Can anybody tell me if it is possible to implement manual exposure with the video mode? I was out yesterday evening trying to record barn owls and no matter what I tried as soon as I...

I'm glad that you explained the middle pic, being eager I clicked without reading first and wondered what you had done :-O I am impressed with the eggs, the only subject of that size that I have tried so far was the texture of a leather chair when I first received the filter adapter and wanted...

    Canon SX50 Specs

Morning Robert, the Raynox will fit straight on but I found it a bit tight and I know that somebody, I think on here, broke one of the squeeze clips doing so. If you are going to do it then attach the adapter first then screw in the lens after. I bought a cheap filter adapter from Amazon...

I have the Continuous AF switched on and Servo AF turned off - is it the latter you mean? Lovely shot of the Reed Bunting Ian

Here's an example taken with the Raynox DCR-250. I take loads and bin loads, usually due to camera-shake of course. Even with the IS on this camera I still find it a big problem as I really don't have steady hands. My other bug-bear has got to be the focus-lock - once it's locked on the wrong...

Lovely shot indeed. Nice and close has given you loads of detail :t:

    Canon SX50 Specs

They look good to me David, just need a bit of processing as they look a little flat but that is what I have found with mine too. Love the swallow and martins. And Roy, your moon is good, tried similar myself but haven't looked at the shots yet - I got side-tracked looking at astrophotography...

Below is a link to a friend's Flickr photostream. He uses the SX50 exclusively and many of his macro shots are taken using the raynox dcr-150, though he often doesn't specify that he has. I asked him about this yesterday as I have the dcr-250 and he tells me that he prefers the 150 for ease of...
