Another great session on Monday afternoon along the old railway track and its offshoots resulted in 13 singing Wood Warbler (plus a few silent birds), 4 singing Pied Flycatcher, 3 singing Redstart, several Tree Pipit, Marsh Tit, a daytime calling Tawny Owl and Spotted Flycatcher (sorry Rob!)...

An excellent afternoon on Monday in the Wyre Forest along the old railway track and Dowles Brook. At least 8 singing Wood Warbler plus a few silent individuals along with at least 5 singing Pied Flycatcher - the best totals I have encountered in the forest. Also calling Cuckoo, Dipper, Spotted...

Actually in the orchard?? Decent views of most of the area can be obtained from the bridge without disturbing the birds. Same issue with those lingering around nestboxes in Knowles Coppice

Just to put Willow Tit in a county context, the WMBC annual report for 2012 which has just dropped through my letter box has only one accepted record for Worcs that year.

Along the railway line the cross-tracks a few hundred metres west of Lodge Hill Farm is always good for Wood Warbler. I often have Tree Pipit in the cleared area above the railway line just before the gate into Knowles Coppice.

Hi Keith - presumably you are referring to the West Midlands County? 2008 WMBC annual report - recorded in 16 locations, including Sandwell Valley during the breeding season. Four birds noted on Sandwell Valley RSPB's feeding station in January. 2009 WMBC annual report - again recorded at 16...

Hi Joe - are you able to advise on this location so others can check it out?

    Dowles Brook, Wyre Forest

I dont want to start a dust-up on this. All I can go on is cold, hard facts i.e. there has not been an accepted record of Willow Tit in the Wyre Forest in 2008, 2009 or 2010 (I await with interest the 2011 West Midland Bird Club annual report which should be dropping through the letterbox...

Hi Joe - as far as I am aware the last accepted record of a Willow Tit in the Worcestershire part of the Wyre Forest was on the 5th March 2007; sadly I dont have access to the Shropshire records. As with Ste I would urge you to contact the County Recorder Steven Payne with details of any...

This remains a local mega in Worcs; not heard of any birds other than the two present at Upton Warren late summer and certainly not from the Wyre for several years although the area around Knowles Mill is a strong-hold for Marsh Tits. So the record is not lost could you contact the County...
