Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

I meant how well a binocular resolves a test chart compared to another binocular of the same magification and objective size is interesting in itself. I don't think it is overly useful, but it is academically interesting.

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

I can't comment on the 8x30's performance, not having used it, my only experience is with the 10x40's and with those to my eyes central sharpness seems close to ELs but not quite there - more than good enough though. I suspect the technical resolution needed for a binocular to appear sharp to...

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

Pretty sure only the 56mm SLCs use AK, with the old SLC 42s (Now Helia S) using standard Schmidt–Pechan. Both are excellent binoculars.

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

Sorry I meant objective - front lens!

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

For me the 10x40 Habichts have good ergonomics - porro's are generally very well balanced, a smooth and precise focuser (no it's the fastest I'll admit, but none of that slop you get with some binoculars). I don't wear glasses so the eye relief and eyecups are perfectly functional. I don't think...

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

I suspect it's the ocular rather than the eyepiece - the 10s show little glare.

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

I can only speak for my comparisons with the 10x's (I've not tried the 8's of either Habichts or NLs)- whilst I have no doubt that a tripod mounted test using a test chart and comparing blown up photos would reveal the NLs to have superior on-axis resolution, in practical terms though, with...

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

Not having tried the 8x30W I can't say how much of an issue glare is. I use the 10x40W GA and whilst glare can be forced to appear under extreme lighting in general they handle glare very well - I'm pretty sure they use the same eyepieces and prisms so either the baffling is very different or...

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

I'm pretty sure the 8x30W has 6 elements too. The 7x42 only has three hence it lacks the W for Wide designation.

Why are those dang Habicht's so BRIGHT!

I use the 10x40 GAs. They're possibly slightly brighter than the NL Pure 10x42s - light transmission is better, but obvious you've got the extra 2mm with the Pures. I think the Habichts edge it, but there's nothing really in it. Similar central sharpness although clearly the NL Pures are pretty...
