    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

They still seem to be sitting there selling $14k cine zooms, although for all I know these might be rebranded chinese products :) https://www.ducloslenses.com/pages/angenieux What I heard re their consumer zooms at the time was that a japanese third party lens brand needing a zoom product...

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

When I say perfected I mean perfected. They got yet another Oscar in 2009, again for some zooms which presumably were still then considered ok. https://www.zoomlenshistory.org.uk/who-invented-the-zoom-lens/pierre-angenieux/ As we all know, the french historically were some of the first and...

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

I would expect to find Angénieux binos of any period, as bought for french government use, just as in Germany you would expect to find those from local manufacturers like Zeiss or Hensoldt. You could ask Angénieux about their history of long range optics :) Edmund

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

You can read a history of Angénieux here http://optronique.net/defense/acteur/75-ans-optique-chez-thales-angenieux The founder of the company simplified the computation of lenses, which allowed him to create more complex designs. Pierre Angénieux received two Academy Awards, which I guess means...

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

Maybe Zeiss should have released the 32 first and then the 42, as the 42 created expectations that may have been excessive. Of course those who want to buy into the reputation and the view of the 42 can just do some muscle conditioning and get the 42 :) Edmund

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

I am not a birder except by accident eg. gulls, or at home .... feeders and random locals.. In that context I already have what I need, although at the rate people are dumping x50 glasses ... While walking, I use a binocular for glances or orientation, even in town; I find my eyesight improves...

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

What I’d like to see is the Z 8x25 bumped up to 30 with 20% more weight and ... price. Same fov, focus mechanics, just a teeny bit more light. Edmund

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

I think the upshot here is that there is still space in the alpha market for a very portable and yet supersharp x32. The new SF delivers on quality and ergo but does not really compete on size/weight alone. Maybe Leica will jump in here, they do nice designs. Wait, did someone say retrovid? Edmund

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

What I meant is that varying lens formulas yield a completely different rendering of front and back objects, and a different ‘SNAP’ and sparkle of what is in focus. There is an esthetic that is not captured by just saying 8x32 155. Edmund

Actually, coming from photography, I would say that a lens also has subjective depth of field qualities. Edmund

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

Actually I am being neither kind nor flattering. These are remarkably good product shots showing an instrument in a setting and imbuing it with emotion by context, they are visually strong and they would make good advertising. In my opinion. I think I am happy with my Victory 8x25, Zeiss...

Pic 1 and Pic 2 are astonishing. You should be commissioned for advertising materials. Edmund

    Review: Zeiss Victory SF 8x32

Nice review. I think the Leica UV HD are now small but significant bit behind the curve, and we would appreciate a direct comparison with the SV and also the large SF, especially regarding sharpness and light gathering. The 42 and 25 are in a class of their own, I remember being shocked by the...
