Can`t see how you come to that conclusion from Willowgrouse`s post Fred, perhaps if you got out of the village a bit more often you might see that, hyperbole aside, he`s not too far from the truth of how things really work in the wider world. No doubt you also have your own opinions though, as...

Yes, along with the female on Helgoland yesterday. On a serious note, it seems the B.B. Albatross has been hanging around the aforementioned island all day, only c260 miles away & with favourable winds.....

Fantastic day of viz-mig, with plenty of birds both arriving & departing. Started just after dawn on the clifftop near Weybourne, where there was a steady flow of birds moving west with a few goodies sprinkled amongst them. Sandwich Terns now seem to be back in numbers offshore & Hirundines of...

Began the day at Cromer L/H , where things were a bit quieter than last weekend. 46 Redwings off east at dawn was a good start but things never really got going. I also had my first Wheatear (2), Sand Martin (2) & Swallows (9) of the year but unfortunately had to leave shortly after 7. To...

A frosty dawn start at Cromer lighthouse this morning was fairly lively with plenty of birds on the move, the highlights being a nice male Ring Ousel, 2 Sparrowhawks & a Buzzard east. Had to pack up around 08:30 due to family commitments so no chance of any further raptors. Dont think I`ve ever...

Spring at last ! ? Having probably had the W.T.Eagle fly over me on the way back from Holt this morning, I decided to try Incleborough Hill for any left over raptor movement. Walking up to the hill there was a Chiffchaff flycatching along the lane, but no singing was heard. On arrival at the...

Only two posts on Good Friday & none so far today*, must be something to do with the weather ! Anyways, took a trip down to Sea Palling yesterday p.m. to sift through the various gulls still present, unfortunately several dogs & their associated walkers thought they would do similar which...

Just more Larids for me again today i`m afraid, but pleasant enough, with 60+ Little Gulls east past Sheringham this morning. The majority were adults birds, but interestingly, not a single summer plumaged one amongst them.

Given the decidedly un-spring like weather today, it was a gull that was the highlight of my mornings birding too, in the form of this rather smart yellow legged [I]argentatus[I] Herring Gull on the beach at Sheringham. Love the Glauc. shot by the way Oliver, as Penny said, very atmospheric.

Given the clear, still conditions inland, it was no surprise to first hear & then see a group of 16 Whooper Swans heading east along the Wensum valley near Hardingham at lunchtime today. re your skull query John, check this out http://www.skullsite.co.uk/Rat/comrat.htm.

Hi Steve, interestingly, I saw what was presumably the same birds as you heading purposefully S.S.E. over Wreningham. I wondered if they may have been heading back over to the continent, but presumably all "our" birds move back north through Scotland ? seeing as how they breed in Iceland &...

QUOTE:Must be mindblowing and very exciting counting shags. Nearly as exciting as counting jays :QUOTE I`snt this part of what we do as birders? It all helps to build up the bigger picture of population/ distribution changes & to document migration. Without a record of these things we...
