At least I assume it's a Rose. Has thorns and leaves look ok. Not very good at wild flowers! Growing on chalk. Toby

The plant is a dog rose or a field rose but the bright red object is a Rose bedeguar gall, also known as Robin's pincushion. It is the result of a hormonal imbalance caused by the actions of a gall wasp.

Pretty, isn't it?

Mike

Edit. Sean beat me to it!

Oh! I did think it looked like a Dog Rose. Was in a rush so snapped a quick picture to check it out later. Couldn't find anything like it. Now I know why. Thanks.
