Help with Newt ID please - Greater Manchester (1 Viewer)

Can anyone help ID this newt - Smooth or Palmate ? Seen on moorland in Greater Manchester. Many thanks.

Both are very similar and widespread in the UK. The only way to be sure of which one is to check the throat .......... spotted on Smooth & Plain on Palmate!

How long was this newt? Looks like quite a young one. I'd have said Palmate based on the fairly uniform dorsal stripe, which starts at the neck and continues well down onto the tail. In young Smooth Newts the stripe starts higher on the head and fades rapidly, before the hind legs.

Thanks again. It was small. About 2/3 size of adult Smooth Newt. I didn't have a clear view of the throat but no spots were visible.
