Encantada de las avecitas que veo a diario.
I have a new hummer visiting my feeders in the past few days. I think it must be a Rufous Sabrewing, but the problem is it looks different from the RS I have seen in Panajachel, Sololá, 1500 mts approximately. In fact, I was there last weekend and saw quite a few (or perhaps one many times). The problem for me is this bird looks much longer and slimmer, with a longer tail and bill, than the other RS from Pana.
Mine is as big as a Magnificent Hummingbird (if anything a bit bigger - I get Mags constantly at my feeder and have seen them together), is a light emerald green on the back, head, wings, and upper tail, and warm cinnamon underparts, white postocular spot (like a partial eyering), long, slightly downward curved black bill, dark markings on the underside of the tail - a band across the middle - and light rufous edges to the outer tail feathers. The tail is no broader than the Magnificent.
The only other possibility I can find is Cinnamon Hummingbird, but the bill is definitely black, and that would be a little out of range for me (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, 2300 mts).
Here are a couple of photos.
Thanks for any help!
Helen
