Ecuador Elaenia sp? (1 Viewer)

I photographed this bird on August 18 at WildSumaco lodge in Ecuador. WildSumaco is in Napo on the east slope at an altitude of about 1500 m.

Small-billed versus White-crested? Per eBird, Small-billed is more commonly reported, for whatever that may be worth. I have absolutely no experience with either of these species, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't have photos showing any different pose.

Of the two, best guess would be small-billed based mainly on head shape. White - crested should have at least some indication of a crest.

I don't think the photos are good enough to try to say with any authority. At this time of year Small-billed is certainly possible as an austral migrant, and I would tend to think that, given the habitat, Small-billed is the more likely one. Personally, though, I'd leave it as Elaenia sp.
