Can anyone help with a couple of grasshoppers that I photographed last weekend?

I think Sandy the problem is the images just aren't good enough for ID. I can't even see a grasshopper in the middle picture yet alone identify it!

Thank you for looking and replying. I had enough trouble getting the camera to focus on the little blighter's!

I will go back next year armed with more knowledge and probably a net. At least it's a new challenge learning ID's during the winter.

Appreciate it's not always easy to photograph these insects. Try + get a dorsal shot showing the keels on the top of the thorax as these are important in ID + a good side view if possible.

On the plus side there's only about 30 UK species of grasshopper + bush-cricket. The latter tend to be more straightforward to identify

I used to be able to do them on song, but sadly I can't hear them now.

Good luck with studying them- certainly an attractive group.
