Hawke Frontier ED 8x43 questions (1 Viewer)

Falcondude, check out Mike's Camera - they have it (Promaster Infinity ELX ED 8x42) for $399. Have a 7 day return policy. I have spoken to them several times, they seem very nice. I am going to try a pair from a shop here in Dallas, then if I like them, I will buy from Mike's Camera. $100 difference in price between the 2 sellers.

Mine are coming from Mike's. It is a chain of a few stores in Colorado. They may have a few pairs on hand so call ahead if you expect the pair in three days. Mine are coming in a week or so. Possibly by Saturday.

tried my Hawke 8x43ED yesterday and to my eyes they are superb and at a bargain price of £195 off ebay,i was surprised that the seller had 10 available but only sold 3 pairs,

Yes, I have to admit that is one heck of a deal at that price. I was always impressed with the optical quality of the Hawkes. Their handling though (armor style and texture) along with their overall balance actually made me prefer them slightly to the Promasters but either bin really does provide excellent optical performance at any price under $1000.

yes they are legit, they come in two different finishes,i received the dimpled finish,

andrew

They finish on the auction pics looks rather like the Promaster i.e without the "diamond" pattern.

I wonder if these were prototypes?

Remember in the original Hawke thread the first pictures posted by Hawke were different from the shipped bins (the armor was different).

The seller seems to sell all sorts of things (he's not a bin or optics specialist) so I wonder if he got them "remaindered".

Still if the optics are fine then I think I'd prefer them to the textured final version. It's the view that counts and the price is excellent. ;)

Thanks Andrew

Does this sellers father have an internetsite (on the receipt maybe) and if so could you give us the url?

Cheers Peter

They might well be some original prototypes. The first Promasters that went out from CameralandNY for review were a prototype run. That makes it conceivable that Hawke might have some prototypes out there as well. For what it is worth, the regular production Promaster I bought is a much better optical instrument than the prototype I reviewed.

the seller on ebay now has more Hawke 8x43 listed but now they are £220,if you look at the item number i posted earlier and look at sellers other items, also has 10x43 for £230,

thanks andrew for sharing. I noticed this too. Unfortunatly he only sells within the UK.

cheers Peter

It might not hurt to email him about that issue. There have been plenty of times I listed "US only sales" but when someone emailed me about shipping to a particular place I really did not have much of a problem with it.

i emailed the seller to ask if he would post to Peewee in holland and he said he would(£16 postage),he may be willing to post to other countries, you won't now unless you ask,
