Latest update from the BTO: Online ringing report published
The Online Ringing Report for 2012, reveals the fascinating journeys made by birds ringed in Britain and Ireland and later found in far-flung places such as Svalbard and Brazil. Ringing also gives valuable information on survival, so reports of local birds are equally important. A Spotted Flycatcher ringed in Norfolk in 2004 reached 8 years old, setting a new longevity record - having flown around 60,000 miles migrating to Africa and back each year. Although it travelled only a tiny fraction of that distance, a Mute Swan in Dorset also set a new age record, 28 years and counting, when its colour-ring was read. For many more stories, take a look at the online ringing report.
